Charleston area organization seeking experienced Accounting Manager to join their team! Under direction of the Controller, the Accountant Manager supervises and coordinates the work of staff responsible for day-to-day general ledger accounting functions to include accounts payable, procurement, fixed assets, and payroll procedures. The Accountant Manager also provides strategic oversight to accounting processes, develop policies and procedures, and develops workflows and process improvement. Candidates must have a strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and a proactive attitude towards continuous improvement of accounting operations, internal controls, policies, and procedures.
Work Duties:
- Provide supervisory and processing services; assume duties of the Controller in their absence.
- Provide backup and support for accounting functions such as journal entry preparation, asset management, billing, accounts payable, and payroll.
- Assists with the annual external audit and the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report in accordance with applicable policies and standards including assisting with related presentations to the district’s Commission.
- Assists with the development, monitoring, and implementation of financial internal controls, policies, and procedures.
- Maintains and manages the district’s accounting systems, records, and related software.
- Assists with the district’s procurement and risk management functions including managing insurance claims and policies and assisting in obtaining project and services bids from third-party contractors/vendors.
- Independently analyze and research financial matters, reports, data, and records and make recommendations to the Controller. Perform complex data analysis, management, and reporting projects for various departments as needed.
- Facilitate month-end reviews with staff.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Federal and state financial regulations and laws.
- Generally accepted accounting principles and standards.
- Finance, accounting, budgeting, and internal control procedures.
- Computerized information systems used in financial, and/or accounting applications.
- Software to capture data, quantify, and illustrate complex financial reports, comparisons, impacts and/or projections.
- Foster a cooperative work environment.
- Effectively communicate financial and technical information, policies, and/or procedures in a manner easily understood by other departments and customers.
- Independently analyze and interpret financial data and timely communicate results of analyses to the Controller.
- Prepare financial and technical reports, budgets, statements and/or projections.
- Apply generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
- Make recommendations to improve the company policies, procedures, and controls.
- Implement policies and procedures to maintain compliance with various regulations.
- Use a personal computer to retrieve and manipulate financial data, particularly spreadsheets. Education and/or Experience:
- B.S. in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Master’s degree in a related field, Certified Public Accounting (CPA) and/or Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) preferred.
- At least five (5) years of related accounting experience. Governmental experience

Salary : $70,000 - $85,000
