Position Overview
FAME is seeking an enthusiastic high school FAME Scholar to serve as an Academy Intern. This position will support FAME as it continues to prepare middle school students to fully realize their educational opportunities through the FAME Academy Program. A successful candidate will meet the criteria of a FAME Scholar by meeting our high academic expectations, attendance, and conduct requirements.
Essential Duties
The Academy Intern will be responsible for helping to guide students through an in-person learning experience intended to prepare participants for placement in one of FAME’s partner high schools. The responsibilities of the Academy intern include, but are not limited to:
- Providing academic support during class
- Paying close attention to the teacher’s instruction and being prepared to answer student questions about new material
- Taking notes during class for review with students in small group recitation classes and individual tutoring sessions
- Ensure students stay on task and pay attention
- Facilitate one-on-one tutoring sessions with students
- Providing academic support outside of class
- Assist teachers as needed supervision when they leave the room, organization of materials for lessons and classrooms
- Ensure smooth transition of students between classes & management of transition during periods (crowd control and behavior)
- Monitoring students
- Monitor peer interactions and activities
- Monitor student adherence to learning expectations (completing assignments, appropriate attire, etc.)
- Modeling expected behaviors and leadership skills.
- Participate in class discussions and model appropriate, effective participation
- Advise and coach students on formal electronic communications to peers and adults (email, chat, work submissions)
- Collaborate with instructional and administrative staff
- Report collective gaps in students’ academic understanding to appropriate teachers and staff
- Assist with grading
- Select students who are doing exceptionally well for special recognition
- Work with the director and other Academy staff to create a weekly newsletter
- Prepare slideshows
- Inventory: All items associated with FAME Academy
- Assist with set up for the day/ clean up at the end of the day—Space being cleaned up (also working with students), checking spaces and left behind materials, setting up slide show.
- *Technology troubleshooting
Class Schedule
- The contract start date is November 9, 2024.
- The program will run from September 28, 2024, through May 17, 2024.
- Program hours will be 8:15 am to 12:15 pm, Monday through Friday.
- No Saturday work is required during holiday breaks.
Compensation
- The total compensation for this position will be $15.00 per hour
- The overnight stay opportunity is included in the total compensation.
Experience/Education Requirement
- Meet FAME Scholar academic, attendance, and conduct expectations
- Must have current clearances within the last 24 months or willingness to obtain the clearances; expenses paid by the contractor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to troubleshoot and efficiently solve problems.
- Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively as a member of a team.
- Able to multitask, forge strong relationships, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, database and event platforms, such as Schoolmint and Alma.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
