Overview
This position will lead the Logistical operations of the organization including transportation, logistics, scheduling and compliance for both domestic and import freight. It will ensure compliance for all domestic and import shipments, including but not limited to US Customs, DOT, OSHA. This position will also identify cost saving opportunities and develop strategies throughout the traffic and logistics processes to ensure shipping timeliness and efficiency. This position will negotiate freight rates and identify other potential expense/cost savings. It will drive alignment between transportation carriers and the organization’s distribution centers (DCs) to support business needs, including DC-to-store shipments to facilitate the highest level of customer service and to foster strong relationships with business partners. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Logistics.
Responsibilities
- Optimize ground, air, and ocean carriers for lowest routing costs on existing and new shipments.
- Use informed decisions to create weekly priorities and strategies to support the business needs in driving and delivering results, communicates them to the team.
- Make strategic business decisions by creating long term and short-term planning strategies to ensure alignment with the company.
- Implement and reporting to senior management on operations performance metrics for all aspects of the transportation process, identifying and resolving potential issues.
- Ensure best practices are followed to drive maximum productivity and efficiency.
- Monitor, maintain, and adhere to organizational policy and procedures.
- Maintain strong and positive relationships with carriers.
- Consistently review all customs related laws and changes to update our system and team to ensure compliance at all levels of the business.
- Gain business insights, develop strategies, and allocate resources to drive excellent service standards for all stakeholders.
- Set hiring and staffing goals to support business needs, source candidates for all transportation positions.
- Lead effective talent selection, training, coaching, motivation, and recognition efforts.
- Develop and grow internal talent through mentoring and succession planning.
- Write and deliver mid-year, individual developmental plans, and annual reviews for direct reports.
- Lead the transportation team to ensure an unbelievable! customer experience.
- Resolve all customer and merchant partner questions and service issues.
- Commit to continuous improvement in an ever-changing industry, and aligning it with organizations vision, mission and values.
Skills
- A bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a closely related.
- Five (5) years of experience in Supply Chain Management or Distribution/Freight Management.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Proven ability to lead, build others’ skills, and accountability.
- Ability to effectively communicate at various levels in support of carrier and merchant relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise considerable professional judgment and discretion in building and maintaining strong relationships with carriers and merchants.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex and competing priorities using time management and organization skills.
- Hands-on management skills that encourage creative problem solving and driving positive change.
- Demonstrated business acumen with strong strategic and analytical skills.
- Strong computer skills and experience with TMS software.
- Customs Compliance knowledge and experience.
