What are the responsibilities and job description for the Irrigation Technician position at Gachina Landscape Management?
Salary Range: Starting $17.50/hr.
Reporting Location: 404 Talbert St. Daly City, CA 94014
Schedule: M-F 6am to 2:45pm
Reports To: Irrigation Manager
This role will help our client manage their irrigation water and to be as efficient as possible. Some primary functions include installation of smart controllers, master valves, and flow sensors. Other responsibilities include site audits, data collections, and creation of proposals.
Essential Functions including but not limited to:
Apprentice:
- Understand & follow all job safety protocols such as PPE, locate utilities, excavation safety, confined space entry, and SDS.
- Identify & understand water meter usage
- Equipment tool usage such as selecting appropriate tool/equipment for task and maintain equipment/tools in proper working order
- Identify and understand sprinkler types, nozzle types & spacing (rotors, sprays, MP Rotators, bubblers, & drip)
- Identify, understand, and determine appropriate swing joint assemblies such as components, type, and installations
- Select, identify, determine, and perform pipe fittings and connection procedures based on pipe & fitting types.
- Utilize GIS maps to locate irrigation systems such as shut off, valves, sprinkler heads & collect data for updating as needed by the GIS Specialist.
Technician:
Complete all essential functions of an apprentice
Identify and demonstrate understanding of pumps, types, components, controls, flow, and safety
Identify backflow functionality
Identify leaks
Identity all water supplies
Demonstrate understanding of basic soil-plant water relation ships
Read and understand plans and as-build documentation
Test and understand voltmeter operations
Controller electrical, transformer and solenoid operations
Understand and determine wiring types, field wiring, wire tracking, and valve locating
Understand, identify, and demonstrate sensor usage, operations, maintenance and replacement
Understand, identify, and installation of valves, maintenance, repair and trouble shooting
Pressure and flow testing principles
Understand and Identify drip mechanics
Understand relative precipitation rates
Sr. Technician:
Complete all essential functions of an Apprentice and Technician levels with minimal supervision
Train and mentor Irrigation Apprentices
Qualifications, Experience, and Additional Compensation:
Required:
- Successful completion of IA Certified Irrigation Tech. and CLCA Water Manager for technicians and Sr. technicians
- Valid CA Driver License and must be pre-authorized by the company’s insurance
- Successful communication in verbal and written in English and/or Spanish
- Familiarity or proficiency with Telephone/Voicemail Technology and computers – iPhone OS, business management software, MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform landscape maintenance and irrigations tasks including but not limited to: Lift no more than 25lbs., Full range of mobility in upper and lower body including stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods of time.
- Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel and operate computer, phone, and other tools as needed.
