Job Title: Cook
Reports to: Dietary Manager
Summary: The Cook directs, coordinates, and executes meals to ensure quality food preparation.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Cook or otherwise prepare high-quality, nutritious meals with excellent food presentation according to recipes and/or menu.
- Verify that meals are prepared and served timely in accordance with the community’s posted dining schedule.
- Maintain clean and sanitized kitchen and equipment.
- Assure that proper food sanitation and infection control procedures are adhered to at all times.
- Ensure Serve Safe procedures are in place. Check cook temperatures, hand washing, glove usage, labeling, rotation, and freezer pulls.
- Enforce safe food handling practices which address basic food safety, hygiene, cross contamination, time and temperature requirements and sanitation with staff and residents.
- Ensure proper storage and food handling adheres to all regulations and guidelines.
- Serve as Lead Supervisor during the shift and direct staff.
- Review and utilize the Community’s disaster preparedness plan for staff and residents to follow in case of fire, explosion, natural disaster, or other emergency, including interruption of electrical power supply, gas-heating supply and water supply.
- Assist in putting up food orders.
- Help the Utility position as needed.
- Attend regular staff meetings and safety meetings.
- Other duties as assigned by the Dietary Manager.
Qualifications
Position Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have an acceptable criminal background record check.
- Must keep a current certification in emergency first aid and CPR.
- Must have a clear tuberculosis screening upon hire to assure that the employee is free of diseases communicable within the scope of employment.
- Must have a physical examination prior to employment and as required by the Community after an injury or illness to assure that the employee is physically qualified to work.
- Must be willing to maintain valid Serve Safe certification.
- Must be able to bend/stoop, climb, reach above shoulder level, kneel, balance, push, pull, squat, crouch, lift, and carry up to one hundred (100) pounds.
- Must have training in emergency evacuation procedures, medical and social needs of the residents, resident’s rights, abuse and neglect reporting, infection control, medication assistance, dementia, and courses relevant to the job duties.
- Must obtain the community’s required continuing education hours annually.
- Employee must not be under the influence of alcohol or other substances while engaged in any work-related activity on behalf of the Community.
- Employee must wear a name tag at all times while on the property or engaged in any work-related activity on behalf of the Community.
- Able to work various schedules and shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays.
