Civil Litigation Attorney
Gallagher Sharp LLP is an AV-rated law firm with multiple offices throughout Ohio and Michigan. We are actively recruiting a motivated civil litigation attorney with at least 5 years of experience handling complex commercial transportation matters to join the firm’s Transportation Practice Group in the Detroit, Michigan office. The position will provide a qualified associate attorney with an excellent opportunity to work with a nationally-recognized team of trial attorneys that represent motor carriers, railroads, ship owners and operators, and their insurers in matters involving wrongful death, serious injuries, property losses, cargo claims, insurance coverage issues, and more.
Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have a combination of the following.
- Experience defending against large commercial trucking claims.
- Knowledge of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
- Experience representing maritime operators, logistics providers, railroads, and other commercial transportation stakeholders in complex casualty claims.
- Knowledge of the general maritime law, Jones Act, Longshore & Harbor Workers Compensation Act, and U.S. Coast Guard regulations.
- Knowledge of the Federal Employer’s Liability Act, Safety Appliance Act, Federal Railway Safety Act, and associated federal regulations applying to railroads.
- Experience providing rapid emergency response services to clients, including on-site investigative assistance following a major accident or loss.
All candidates must also possess each of the following.
- An active Michigan law license.
- Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
- Substantial experience investigating claims, preparing and responding to written discovery, taking and defending depositions, managing expert witnesses, and all aspects of motion practice.
- The ability to work both collaboratively as part of a team and independently, depending on the size and nature of the matter.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including effectively communicating with colleagues, clients, the court, and opposing counsel.
- A desire to maintain and develop long-term client relationships, and actively participate in industry-related groups and associations.
Compensation and Benefits
