Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of professional nursing services in compliance with the nurse practices act toward meeting the daily and special needs of the residents within a residential, clinical, or institutional setting.
- Works closely with personnel in other departments to ensure the overall well being of the residents.
- Orders, prepares, checks dosages, and administers or gives to authorized personnel for distribution of medications as directed by the physician.
- Takes and records the residents body temperature, pulse, and respiration rates, reporting unusual symptoms to the resident’s physician.
- Performs restorative and rehabilitative therapy.
- Routinely observes and reports on the condition of the residents.
- Performs professional nursing services such as administering enemas, irrigations, perineum care, lotion rubes, massages, first aid and changes dressings.
- Lifts and ambulates residents.
- Provides postmortem care.
- Maintains a variety of resident charts, records, assignments, summaries, and reports.
- Assists with and/or directs routine and special staff scheduling.
- Prepares and reviews information posted to the resident’s charts, records, and reports.
- Consults with and interprets policies for personnel, residents, their relatives, and others.
- Under direction of a physician, administers injections.
- Sterilizes equipment and supplies.
- Participates in the health team evaluations of the resident’s needs and implementation of the treatment programs.
- Arranges and coordinates the services of other health care professionals.
- Attends, participates, and directs daily report sessions and in service trainings.
- Trains, instructs and directs the work of nursing personnel.
- Performs the work of subordinate personnel in emergency situations.
