What are the responsibilities and job description for the Biologist (Cell Culture) position at GAP Solutions, Inc.?
Provide services as a Biologist (Cell Culture) in support of the overall functions of the Vaccine Research Center (VRC), Vaccine Production Program (VPP) within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop upstream manufacturing processes for viral vaccines, recombinant proteins and/or virus-like particles and/or monoclonal antibodies in the Cell Culture Development (CCD) group at the Vaccine Production Program Laboratory (VPPL).
- Perform investigations and documentation of cell line growth, optimization of cell culture/fermentation conditions, cell culture technology development, improvement of cell culture platforms, modeling of cell culture behavior, troubleshooting of cell culture/fermentation processes, and tech transfer of defined cell culture/fermentation processes to the clinical production facility.
- Independently set-up and operate bioreactors and other cell culture equipment required for development studies and/or reagent materials production.
- Serve as the upstream SME and technical liaison with the VPPL Data Sciences and Automation group to:
- Support development of the CCD module within the VPPL’s data integration platform.
- Provide CCD design specification and participate in beta-testing to troubleshoot new application testing (e.g., bug fixes and end-user evaluation)
- Develop versatile automated report templates
- Train group members on CCD-related Data Science platform tools/modules
- Serve as subject matter expert (SME) on automated bioreactors system (ambr250 system)
- liaise with operations group on system preparedness, maintenance, and operation.
- train team members on system setup and programming.
- author training documents on system operation.
- Capture process descriptions and results in lab notebooks, tech transfer documents, and technical reports.
- Participate in project and laboratory meetings, keep current with compliance obligations, and responsible for maintenance of the laboratory and equipment.
- Contribute results and studies for publication in peer reviewed journals.
Basic Qualifications:
- M.S. in Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related life or health science degree.
- 5-8 years of industry-level experience in cell culture development
- Experience with tech transfer of cell culture processes to manufacturing is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff.
- Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
