SUMMARY :
The Director of Counseling Services reports to the Vice President and Dean of Student Development and supervises the activities of Counseling Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Works under the supervision of the Vice President and Dean of Student Development.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates all programs of the Counseling Services department.
- Serves in an on-call rotation.
- Participates as a member of the Leadership Council.
- Supervises the staff of Counseling Services, to include all professional staff, graduate level interns, and work study students
- Provides individual and group counseling to all students. Faculty, staff, and administration on a limited and / or crisis related basis
- Plans and provides programs / seminars on special topics.
- Provides training for Resident Advisors, Graduate Resident Directors, Peer Leaders, and Orientation Leaders
- Consults with parents, staff, faculty, and student organizations.
- Attends continuing education training to maintain state licensure.
- Provides crisis counseling.
- Administers Counseling Services annual budget
- Supervises master’s degree students in Counseling Practicum.
- Approves all notes in Titanium software for graduate interns and associate licensed counselors
- Complete mental health screenings with all student athletes with the help of all counseling center staff.
- Participate in orientation weekend and other Student Development activities as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION / REQUIREMENT :

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE :
Master’s degree (M.A.) or equivalent and at least five years of related experience and / or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor or equivalent license or certificate.
LANGUAGE SKILLS :
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, staff, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and / or boards of directors.
REASONING ABILITY :
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to respect confidentiality with the boundaries of ethical guidelines, supervision, and professional consultation within the division. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
