Geographic Information System Administrator

Job Description

• System Administration & Maintenance:Install, configure, and maintain ArcGIS Enterprise components (Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Data Store, ArcGIS Web Adaptor) on both Windows and Linux environments.
• Administer and manage ArcGIS Online organization, including user accounts, content, and security settings.
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to ensure high availability and optimal performance of all GIS services.
• Perform regular system updates, patches, and upgrades to keep the GIS infrastructure current and secure.
• Database Management:
• Manage and administer enterprise geodatabases, including schema design, versioning, and access control.
• Work with database administrators to ensure the performance, integrity, and security of GIS data stored in relational databases (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
• Develop and implement data backup, recovery, and archival procedures for GIS data and systems.
• User Support & Training:
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for GIS users, addressing issues related to software installation, data access, and application functionality.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including system diagrams, user guides, and best practice documents.
• Conduct training sessions for users on new GIS tools, applications, and workflows.
• Security & Governance:
• Implement and enforce security policies and procedures for the GIS environment to protect sensitive data and systems.
• Manage user roles and permissions, ensuring appropriate access levels for different groups of users.
• Participate in the development of GIS governance policies and standards.
• Application Development & Integration:
• Support the development and deployment of custom web mapping applications, dashboards, and mobile solutions using tools like ArcGIS Experience Builder, ArcGIS Web AppBuilder, and ArcGIS Survey123.
• Work with application developers and other IT staff to integrate GIS services with other business systems and applications.
• Automate routine administrative tasks using scripting languages such as Python (ArcPy).

Skills Required

• Proven experience with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the full ArcGIS Enterprise stack (ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Data Store).
• Hands-on experience with ArcGIS Online administration.
• Experience with enterprise geodatabase management in a relational database environment (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
• Experience with scripting languages, particularly Python (ArcPy), for automation and geoprocessing.

Technical Skills:

• Expertise in Esri's ArcGIS platform, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, and ArcGIS Online.
• Strong knowledge of Windows Server and/or Linux operating systems.
• Familiarity with web technologies and services (e.g., REST, SOAP, HTML, JavaScript).
• Understanding of network protocols, firewalls, and security best practices.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is a plus.
• Soft Skills:
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with FME or other ETL tools.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with ArcGIS Monitor.
• Experience in a specific industry (e.g., utilities, government, public safety).

Education/Training/Certifications

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Geography, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Esri Technical Certification (e.g., ArcGIS Enterprise Administration Associate/Professional).
