Job Summary
The Special Education Aide works closely with and under the direction and supervision of the designated Special Education or General Education Teacher(s) for the benefit of students in the Special Education program.
Duties and responsibilities may vary depending on the Special Education Aide’s assignment. May be assigned to one student, a group of students, or a large group in a general education setting or separate setting.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Administer daily content area tests/quizzes as well as standardized tests
- Proctoring MCAS groups according to DESE protocol
- Provide coverage for Classroom/Special Education Teachers for meetings
- Prepare materials for special education department
- Setting up assistive technology for student use
- Weekly training/consultation with liaison as built into schedule
- Informal ongoing communication with liaison regarding progress of students
- Reinforce previously taught concepts in a small group setting
- Duties that are designated by the Principal
- Documenting students’ progress both academically and behaviorally
- Be aware of and adhere to confidentiality protocol
- Reinforce instruction of general education under a Special Education Teacher’s supervision
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience working with special education population preferred
- Ability to work with students in a tutorial capacity necessary
- Ability to follow directions of the Special Education Teacher and/or the building Principal essential
- Employment based on successful completion of a CORI background check
