Position Description:

The safety engineer serves as a dedicated technical resource for our high tech/mission critical/commercial construction projects. This position coordinates and maintains company policies adhering to local, state, and federal environmental, health and safety regulations. They perform regular inspections of work areas and work procedures, consulting with the safety manager on environmental, health and safety opportunities and ensuing recommendations accordingly. This role is a dedicated trainer and resource to all employees on all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps informed of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute all safety functions for our construction projects.
  • Work on-site as a hands-on Safety Representative responsible for the assigned construction projects to ensure the project is completed in an accurate, safe, and timely manner.
  • Review specific site safety policies and procedures that align with company safety model OSHA, Federal, State, and local laws.
  • Conduct on-site job hazard safety assessments, addressing specific needs of the project, fall protection, training, scaffold user training, forklift, and mobile elevated platform training.
  • Perform safety inspections and implement control for hazardous working conditions or unsafe team member activities, meet with site supervisor to discuss findings, and submit report to the reporting safety manager.
  • Ensures all required records and reports are complete, accurate, and submitted per established policies and procedures.
  • Ensures job site orientation is conducted for every new employee on the job site.
  • Reviews job hazard analysis and pre-task planning documents for scopes of work performed on project(s).
  • Assists in any safety or risk issues identified as project progresses.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree in construction management, environmental, health and safety (EH&S) field or similar.
  • 1-2 years proven experience in safety engineering or a related role, preferably in a construction environment.
  • Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.
  • Strong computer skills-experience with Microsoft Office suite (Windows, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Comfortability using and learning new technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications:
    • OSHA 10/30, Dust Control 310, First aid, Hazwoper 24-hour training
    • NFPA 70e training
  • Working knowledge of health and safety management systems.
    • OSHA CFR 1926 standards or the state construction safety regulations.
  • 2 years’ experience working in high tech construction projects including chip manufacturing, data centers and semiconductor.

Physical Requirements:

  • The employee is regularly required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Standing/Walking/Sitting
  • Prolonged periods sitting at desk/working on computer.
  • Ability to travel throughout facility/navigate around job site as required to conduct safety inspections.
  • Legs: Must be able to climb stairs
  • Hands/Arms: Constant use of hands/fingers for mouse/keyboard/computer use
  • Vision: Visual acuity in near, mid, and far range. Color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, hand/eye coordination.
  • Hearing: Sufficient to hear conversational levels in person and over the telephone and radio; sufficient to hear alarms on equipment
  • Speech: Sufficient to make oneself heard in person, speak in front of groups, and be understood over the telephone and radio
  • Lift/Carry: Up to 40lbs.
  • Bending/Twisting
  • Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling
  • Travel: Must be able to sit for extended periods of time for required traveling
