What are the responsibilities and job description for the LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - Advanced Acute Care Medical Float I position at Geisinger?
- Provides clinic support to the provider, clinic staff, the patient and their family to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient's condition. Provides front-line office support as needed to facilitate efficient patient flow through the clinic. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the age range specific to the assigned clinical area.
- Completes patient database on new and returning patients to include chief complaint, vital signs, and updated medical, surgical, and family history, update allergy information, and review all medication, amending the list as needed.
- Provides nursing care and assists providers with procedures as necessary.
- Documents all assessments and treatments in the nursing notes as appropriate to scope of licensure.
- Collects and prepares laboratory specimens; completes associated paperwork to expedite laboratory studies with maximum accuracy and efficiency.
- Executes and documents ongoing patient communication.
- Reviews and reinforces patient education as directed by the provider and RN to ensure the patient's understanding of medical condition and compliance with treatment instructions.
- Maintains appropriate par levels of all inventory.
- Reorders and restocks as needed.
- Verifies expiration dates.
- Cleans and sets up examination and treatment rooms between cases; ensures required level of asepsis, availability of appropriate instruments and equipment, and preparation of patient.
- Routinely inspects and observes condition of equipment and instruments to ensure proper operation and identify the need for preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Processes instruments according to established protocols.
- Under the direction of the provider and RN, assists with orientation of new personnel to ensure that they are appropriately trained to support patients, providers and other clinic staff.
- Provides front-line office support as necessary.
