JOB TITLE: Fairgrounds Maintenance Worker
DEPARTMENT: Gem County Fair
REPORTS TO: Gem County Commissioners
SALARY: $31,387 - $39,228 DOE

SUMMARY
The primary function of an employee in this class is to perform daily maintenance, repairs, improvements and custodial care of fairground facilities and equipment. The position works to support the safe use of the fairgrounds and all facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Oversee the use and clean-up of the horse stalls
· Operate equipment as required to maintain and keep the race track, arena, and rodeo grounds in good and usable condition
· Insure security by locking all buildings and removing keys from equipment when not in use
· Maintain Fairgrounds buildings and restrooms in a clean and usable condition
o Perform pre- and post-use inspections of all buildings
o Maintain shop in an orderly and clean condition
· Maintain and distribute trash containers to assure no accumulation of trash or litter
· Maintain and care for the healthy conditions of trees, plants, infield and grass areas
· Maintain Pre-operation Inspections daily and maintain Service Logs on ALL Equipment for routine maintenance and seasonal weather preparations
· Perform minor repairs and maintenance of facilities and equipment
o Routine maintenance of ALL equipment and tools
o Maintain an active inventory of all equipment and tools
o Perform light plumbing, i.e., sprinklers, faucets/waterlines, commodes and sinks
o Perform carpentry work, i.e., tables, benches, fences/gates (including horse barns) rodeo arena and track rails, and minor building repairs
· Advise County of condition of equipment and facilities on a regular basis and obtain permission for repairs and/or replacement of parts and supplies
· Paint and maintain tables, benches, trash receptacles, etc.
· Maintain County Fairgrounds RV Park including bathrooms, trash, landscaping, and irrigation
· Execute quarterly water test in partnership with Southwest District Health
· Order routine supplies such as light bulbs, paper products, cleaners
· Perform other duties as assigned or needed
· Work occasional irregular or weekend hours with the approval of supervisor
· Supervise Sheriff Inmate Labor Detail (SILD), community service individuals and 4H and other volunteers, as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- Demonstrable experience in operation of farm trucks, tractors, ground engagement equipment, lawn mowers and accessories, power and small hand tools
- Basic electrical, plumbing, heating systems
- Basic carpentry
· Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance
· Must have welding experience
Ability to:
· Work a flexible schedule, work well with the public, maintain accurate records and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
· Must have valid Driver’s License
TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Perform manual labor
- Perform duties in adverse weather conditions
- Ability to lift, turn, and carry 70 lbs
