What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health Communications Specialist position at Genesee County Prevention Coalition?
The Genesee County Prevention Coalition (GCPC) is looking for the right passionate, energetic, motivated person to join our team to make a difference in our community. Together, we support, empower and connect individuals, families and communities to prevent mental health and substance use disorders through active collaboration to make a difference both today and for the future.
As the Health Communications Specialist, you will coordinate marketing, social awareness and events planning for the GCPC in collaboration with a number of individuals and teams including GCPC staff, volunteers and community partners. This role reports to the Prevention Manager.
Responsibilities Include:
Develop marketing, social media and community awareness initiatives and strategies in alignment with and support of GCPC’s vision and mission
· Optimize the use of social media platforms to reach target markets
· Create unique graphics for use in the various written and electronic communications
· Compile communications data for use in various reporting requirements
Assist in the design and publication of the Annual Report
· With key stakeholders, regularly assess and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing and communication initiatives; apply continuous improvement
· Create and publish the monthly GCPC e-newsletter, flyers, marketing materials, etc.
· Work with staff to produce the bi-annual Youth Connections Magazine with relevant content, including ads and content specific to GCPC
· Connect with community partners to promote Youth Connections Magazine and obtain advertisers from community
Maintain the GCPC website and the Prevention Portal
· Coordinate with staff and partners to plan and execute highly effective events and activities, especially the Annual Meeting
· Contribute to and maintain our safe, secure, and pleasant work environment
· Other duties and projects as assigned
Desired Qualifications
The successful candidate will be an outgoing networker, a self-starter, flexible, resourceful, creative, dependable, well-organized and able to work both independently and as a part of a small, tight-knit team. Additional qualifications include:
- Bachelor's degree in communications (health communications preferred), marketing or a related field
- Minimum three years of increasing responsibility and experience in communications and/or marketing
- Event planning and management skills
- Effective use of multiple social media platforms
- Graphics design and creative design skills
- Detail-orientated with a passion for producing high quality work product
- High level of organization and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize work
- Must have a high level of digital proficiency, including Microsoft365, Microsoft Office, social media and other platforms (including but not limited to Meta, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Asana, Canva and Constant Contact)
- Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License, current automobile insurance and use of vehicle during working hours.
Job Type: Full-Time, non-exempt with benefits and paid time off
Pay Range: $23.00 - $28.00/hour commensurate with experience and capabilities
Physical Work Environment:
- A hybrid arrangement involving both in-office and remote work
- Ability to physically set up and facilitate community events
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs, carry and transport materials to and from events
- Ability to participate in meetings both in person and remotely
- Ability to perform computer-based work
