What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early College Counselor position at Genesee Intermediate School District?
The Early College Counselor serves as the facilitator for Mott Middle College (MMC)/Genesee Early (GEC) College's guidance and counseling related services and programs related to individual student needs and vocational, college, and career-pathway planning. The counselor is responsible for providing counseling, assisting in career development, scheduling, testing, and the coordination of social work for high school students. Communicates student needs with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and community service agency personnel. Coordinates guidance and counseling related services and programs related to individual student needs, vocational/career pathways, scheduling, college counseling, and graduate follow-up.
Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):
1. Develops, coordinates, and implements one-on-one and group counseling services consistent with the MMC/GEC program and the State of Michigan's Guidance Curriculum which includes individual planning, responsive services, and systems support.
2. Co-develops and implements student scheduling, career-technical education, Educational Development Plans (EDP), and college counseling.
3. Conducts interviews and provides direct guidance and counseling services for MMC/GEC students.
4. Serves as a model in the delivery of outcome-based instructional objectives in order to meet individual social, emotional, intellectual, and physical needs of students.
5. Works directly with community mental health agencies, probate court, other agencies, and providers of medical services to facilitate and coordinate services.
6. Works cooperatively with program staff and Mott Community College (MCC)/University of Michigan-Flint (UM-Flint) staff to maintain a positive relationship for coexistence between the two programs, as well as dual enrollment.
7. Participates in staff meetings, in-service training programs, staff development, professional growth, and special programs related to the MMC/GEC.
8. Supervises students as required and authorized by the principal to ensure that program policies and procedures are followed, and students conduct themselves in accordance with applicable student handbook guidelines.
9. Participates with students and staff in extracurricular and career awareness activities.
10. Assumes responsibility in the assigned area for school materials, equipment, and facilities in accordance with MMC/GEC policies and procedures.
11. Develops and recommends annual goals and short-term outcome-based instructional objectives related to individual student needs and requirements.
12. Provides direct consultation to students and parents/guardians regarding family and community adjustment services.
13. Serves as a liaison for MMC/GEC, MCC/UM-Flint, and community agencies related to social work services needed by students.
14. Recommends and assists in the implementation of behavior and adjustment plans related to individual student needs.
15. Maintains appropriate confidential records on students in the assigned area.
16. Facilitates the delivery of all assessment programs and maintains assessment data.
17. Provides instruction to students in career development, life skills, and character education.
18. Consistently models Win-Win leadership.
Qualifications:
Education:
Michigan School Guidance Counselor License or valid Michigan teacher certificate with an endorsement in guidance and counseling required; secondary level teacher certificate preferred.
Experience:
Experience in school guidance and counseling in an early/middle college school or program preferred.

Pay: $43,927.00 - $85,717.00 per year
