What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mathematics Specialist position at Genesee Intermediate School District?
Job Summary:
The Mathematics Specialist is responsible for the leadership, development, implementation and coordination of instructional strategies, interventions and programs related to the improvement of student performance in mathematics and related areas. Along with county schools, will work closely with state identified schools that receive Regional Assistance Grant funding. Will Analyze student assessment and achievement scores, model innovative technology strategies and design and deliver professional learning to improve instructional performance in mathematics at all grade levels. The consultant will work in cooperation with school improvement goals as well as using data tools to engage districts in discussions around improving mathematics instruction.
Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):
1. Provides leadership and direction in the area of mathematics curriculum, instruction and assessment for the county.
2. Actively communicates with mathematics instructors throughout the county to keep them updated with the current instructional practices and curriculum.
3. Communicates student instructional needs through the analysis of math test results to district and constituent school district staff.
4. Provides professional learning utilizing the most current information and latest research on best practices as it relates to student assessment and grading.
5. Provides direct math coaching and support to identified school(s) in county.
6. Works regularly with identified schools offering intensive professional learning and coaching for the county’s most struggling schools.
7. Maintains confidential information on student achievement, as well as initiating reports to compile data that identify areas for improvement.
8. Creates and maintains a website presence that serves as a resource for curriculum, instruction and assessment.
9. Analyzes, interprets and assesses federal reports, test scores, research information and school improvement results.
10. Works cooperatively with the other curriculum coordinators to create/complete projects, provide professional development and integrate content for the purpose of supporting our local districts' needs.
11. Uses current technology to create and post video casts, host webinars and connect with educators virtually.
12. Identifies and understands the various data tools that districts are using and helps in the analysis and interpretation of current math assessments.
13. Works other consultants to integrate math instruction into other content areas.
14. Researches, assesses and recommends mathematics instructional technology, applications and related software programs in collaboration with instructional technologists.
15. Posts updated math resources for teachers on the website along with using current social media to communicate with county teachers and administrators.
16. Understands and models Differentiated Instruction and Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) practices in math.
17. Assists the Coordinator for Research and Assessment in the analysis and interpretation of state and federal reports, student test scores and research results related to the delivery of mathematics instructional programs and related services.
18. Assists district and constituent school district staff with the analysis, implementation and assessment of effective data-gathering tools, instruments and student assessments to identify mathematics achievement by student, grade level and strand.
19. Models up-to-date technology and integrates media and software applications into the delivery of programs, services and professional development.
20. Understands the school improvement process and works with constituent districts and buildings to address planning and implementation of instructional and professional development activities to improve pupils’ academic learning.
21. Demonstrates an understanding of the needs of all learners and learning styles, including the at-risk, special education and gifted learners. Includes appropriate strategies and content in programs and services.
22. Serves as a member of the Office of Education and Learning instructional planning team.
23. Consistently models Win-Win leadership.
