What are the responsibilities and job description for the Van Driver position at Genesis Alternative program?

Position will remain open until filled.

TITLE: Van Driver

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:                                                                                             

  • Maintain appropriate CT driver’s license with “V” endorsement or CDL with appropriate endorsement/s.
  • Safe driving record.
  • Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills.
  • Drug and alcohol testing and physical as required for licensure. Criminal background check.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates the unique potential of all learners and their ability to make meaningful contributions to our society.
  • Ideal candidate would have experience driving a 10-15 passenger van or a larger vehicle.

 

REPORTS TO:         Assistant Director of Financial Planning and Operations

 

JOB GOAL:                          Safely operate school van to transport students, staff, and others to and from in-district locations, field trips, athletic events, and other events/locations as needed.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate school van in compliance with CT motor vehicle laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain safe conditions for all passengers while on van. Coordinate with administrative team and transportation liaison to maintain a safe, respectful environment. Promptly communicate concerns to appropriate administrator/s.
  • Learn necessary routes and demonstrate adaptability and flexibility with changes to routes, scheduling, and weather-related needs.
  • Report any mechanical defects of van.
  • Assist with basic maintenance of van including fueling, cleaning, and transport to safety checks.
  • Provide supervision of passengers boarding to ensure proper use of safety belts, operate mobility lift (as applicable) and ensure proper loading and unloading of passengers.
  • Maintain records of daily routes, student attendance, and report any accidents or delays.
  • Develop positive relationships with students, parents and staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:       11 months

10 months (Late August - June) ~35 hours per week, 1 month (July)  ~15 hours per week  - in accordance with district calendar. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:    Work requires the performance of physical labor including the operation of vehicles and travel within Connecticut.  Work includes prolonged periods of sitting, lifting students, climbing on and off van. Lifting possible with operation of van lift for wheelchair. 

 

EVALUATION: Evaluation will be conducted in accordance with discretionary staff evaluation procedures.
