Job Title: Occupational Health Nurse

JOB OVERVIEW: Under the supervision of the Assistant Manager of Health & Benefits and the Medical Director, the Occupational Health Nurse performs nursing services and administers a variety of occupational health services to ensure the employees are functioning in optimal physical condition and are physically able to perform their job. Upholds the values of the GPA to promote Safety, Integrity, Respect, Community, Creativity and Opportunity. Promotes a safe work environment by participating in safety initiatives and reporting unsafe conditions and behaviors.
JOB DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS: 1. Performs health screenings for pre-placement assessment of prospective employees and annual physical exams. Along with Medical Director, recommends employment or further medical review as necessary. Reports any concerns to Human Resources.
2. Performs annual vision screenings (depth perception, color vision, and peripheral vision) using a Titmus Occupation Screener for those in safety sensitive positions to determine visual acuity based on Georgia DOT minimum standards.
3. Collaborates with the Assistant Manager to plan, develop, and implement various occupational health/wellness programs (blood drives, mammogram unit visits, wellness screenings, etc.) on behalf of the organization and employees.
4. Provides brief personal health consultations for employees with appropriate referrals.
5. Assists in the preparation of weekly FMLA reports for Human Resources. Distributes FMLA forms and job descriptions to employees, supervisors, and doctors.
6. Communicates with Risk Management regarding employees' Workers' Compensation injuries/illnesses and notifies them of any changes in employee status.
7. Provides immediate first aid and assessment for occupational injuries/illnesses. Coordinates the transportation of ill or injured employees to a hospital, clinic, or physician's office for appropriate care.
8. Identifies health needs and provides instructions and information about good health and safety practices.
9. Keeps informed on new and upcoming developments as it relates to the field of occupational health.
10. Dispenses medication and medical supplies as directed by the Medical Director to employees as needed.
11. Communicates and consults with Human Resources about job related employee concerns.
12. Travels to all facilities for screenings and physicals.
13. Works with Employee Assistance Program counselors as needed to coordinate employee referrals.
14. Instructs employees the National Safety Council standards for Adult CPR/AED.
15. Enters information into the CMS application of Healthgram.
16. Assists the Medical Director and Nurse Practitioner as needed.
17. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience in trauma nursing, emergency room, and critical care highly desired. Ability to maintain high standards in nursing practices and procedures is essential. Knowledge of current standards for health and safety legislation and pertinent legal statutes required. Ability to produce and maintain accurate records and reports pertaining to employee health care necessary. Must possess good nursing assessment skills. Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office required. Ability to work independently. Must be able to climb ladders and have no fear of heights that would keep her/him from acting when necessary. Must be CPR/AED certified. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels as well as customers and the general public required. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Ability to handle confidential information per HIPAA guidelines.
Education and/or Experience:
College degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing and current R.N. license in the state of Georgia required. Minimum of four years of experience in nursing. COHN (Certified Occupational Health Nurse) desired.
Other Requirements:
Must meet the criteria for and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Must have valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
