What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Structural Project Manager position at Gessner Engineering LLC?

Senior Project Managers with Gessner Engineering perform and oversee engineering design, facilitate client interactions, and lead a team of engineers on various projects.  


Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Manage and lead project teams to successfully deliver project deliverables 
  • Coordinate and oversee the production of construction documents, specifications, and other engineering documents 
  • Plan, organize, prioritize, and monitor the scope, budget, schedule, resources, and status of assigned projects 
  • Conduct internal QA/QC reviews of work completed by the department 
  • Review and seal projects as Engineer of Record 
  • Collaborate in a team setting with other departments and teams to support team and project success 
  • Lead and oversee a project from the conceptual stage to completed construction with a strong understanding of other engineering discipline's scopes 
  • Mentor and coach staff to support their growth and professional development 
  • Manage and provide performance guidance and leadership to direct reports 
  • Participate in and facilitate department initiatives and improvement plans and activities 

Qualifications 

  • Education/Licensure 
    • B.S. Civil Engineering w/ Structural focus OR B.S. Architectural Engineering 
    • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License in Texas 
  • Experience 
    • 10 years of experience as a Structural Engineer 
      • 3 years of experience in a management role 
      • 3 years of experience with Engineer of Record responsibility 
    • Experience in the design and detailing of various construction materials, including steel, cold formed metal framing, conventional and post-tensioned concrete, concrete masonry, and conventional and engineered wood 
    • Experience in the design and analysis of building structures 
    • Experience in residential, commercial, high education (institutional), and vertical public infrastructure projects 
    • Experience in the development of comprehensive construction documents 
    • Experience in the use of various industry standards such as: IBC, IRC, ASCE 7, ACI, PCI, AISC, NDS, and TMS 
    • Bluebeam, Autodesk REVIT, RISA, or RAM Structural System experience is a plus 
  • Skills 
    • Excellent Leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization 
    • Strong working knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements, and the business impact upon the organization 
    • Be solutions-minded. Always find a way to be part of the solution. 
    • Be collaborative. Must have a positive attitude, work well with co-workers and clients. 
    • Take initiative. Seek out every opportunity to do and to learn. 
    • Be vision focused. Drive-outcomes and make continual progress towards meaningful long-term goals.
