What are the responsibilities and job description for the SCHEDULER position at Gila Regional Medical Center?
General Description:
The Scheduler is responsible for the daily flow of operations within the Surgical Services' reception area, including, but not limited to, reception and registration of patients, collection of co-payments, scheduling of surgical procedures, preparation and distribution of the daily surgery schedule, preparation of patient charts, and data collection for monthly statistics.
Essential Functions:
- Schedules surgeries utilizing existing protocols. Discusses variation is scheduling and/or equipment with OR Manager or Director.
- Prepares and distributes daily schedule accurately, in a timely manner.
- Greets patients in a cheerful manner. Answers telephone in a pleasant manner. Distributes information in a timely manner.
- Completes registration process, as needed, ensuring all information is complete and accurate.
- Collects patient co-payments and documents appropriately. Reconciles receivables at end of shift.
- Prepares daily patient charts and ensures needed documentation is present.
- Completes statistical data as assigned.
- Works with applicable teams and other designated committees.
- Ensures that all needed supplies are available.
- Works with auxiliaries and surgical services caregivers to ensure a positive experience for patients and their families.
- Attends departmental meetings and participates in department quality assurance problem identification and resolution. Helps with development of standards and policies. Acts as a mentor for students and new caregivers
Education & Training Requirements:
- High School graduate or GED
- Computer proficiency required. Experience with MEDITEC, Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology
- One to two years of scheduling and/or registration experience preferred
