Utility / Plant Operator
OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
Responsible for serving as a Jack-of-all trades helping as needed and directed throughout the operation. Operate the Bagging Plant. Perform greasing, loading, scale house ticketing and light maintenance duties. Load flatbed trucks with forklift, and bulk trucks with pneumatic controls.
JOB DUTIES
- Daily operation and inspection of assigned work area and Plants.
- Fill-in for lunches (and as needed) as operator where needed and at other plants.
- Maintain plant equipment in good operating condition.
- Ensure all conveyor belt tail pulleys are shoveled out prior to start-up and all machine guarding is in place.
- Manage the operation of conveyors, elevators, and screens to process, size, distribute and discharge sand products into bulk trucks. Requires operator to climb and descend up to 8 flights of outside stairs. Perform daily housekeeping, including material spills, keeping walkways clear, picking up trip hazards, and keep storage facilities clean and organized.
- Record plant operations data in daily logs.
Other Duties (As needed and directed)
- Perform a “walk around” the plant, identifying and reporting safety hazards and mechanical issues at the facility.
- Responsible for inspecting and greasing specific sections of the plant.
- Load bulk material into bulk trucks, loading sand from overhead storage containers and transporting it to dump area.
- Load pallets of product onto flatbed trucks with forklift.
- Perform maintenance, cleanup and repair of plant. Operate a Cat Skid Steer wheel loader.
- Perform scale house duties, ticketing customer trucks utilizing computer programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Moderate computer skills. Ability to learn company software programs for ticketing.
Must be able to communicate effectively over the radio, and to supervisors, customers, and co-workers.
WORK DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENT
- Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, as needed, including hard hat, hearing protection, eye protection, hard-toed safety shoes or boots, dust mask respirator, protective clothing, gloves and other personal protective equipment.
- Employee may occasionally be required to work in environments which include exposure to extreme temperatures. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, and work on elevated platforms. Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. shovel sand and manipulate heavy loads or levers.
