PRIMARY PURPOSE: To assist the Horseback in the organization and administration of the horseback programs within the established standards and policies; assist in the general care of the horses.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Horseback Director
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Assist in the daily care of the horses including feeding, grooming, watering and first aid treatment.
- Assist in the classification of all horses prior to the arrival of campers.
- Assist in the instruction of western riding techniques and general care of horses.
- Maintain all riding equipment in safe condition.
- Assist in the general maintenance and upkeep of the barn and riding areas including cleaning of the stalls.
- Assist and participate in the All Camp programs.
- Assist in the opening and closing of camp including preparation of the barn and inventory of all riding equipment.
- Assist in unit activities when not involved with the riding program.
- Uphold all standards and policies as set forth by GSUSA, GSHS, ACA, and the State of Mississippi.
- Carry out other responsibilities as designated by the Horseback Director and Camp Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 18 years of age.
- Experience in western riding techniques.
- Experience working with children.
- Knowledge of general care for horses.
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR or Passes the certification course offered during staff training.
