Girl Scout camp is where campers find their strengths and challenge themselves as they navigate activities at the campsite units, in the dining hall, and along the trails. The Program Supervisor assist in the overall management of camp by directing the day-to-day operations of camp, overseeing the development of activities by Activity Leaders and Unit Staff, creating weekly program schedules, coordinating daily rotation of activities, creating sign up elective options, and ensure that proper procedures are being followed at all programming areas. You must have the ability to learn new skills in many different areas and have a passion to work directly with campers.  


Must be willing to live on camp for the entirety of their assigned camp season.  The full summer season - Begins in mid-June, about a week before camp is in session, and ends when camp sessions stop usually in mid-August (around an 8 - 9 week program)


Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide a leadership presence by building and nurturing a sense of community and understanding among all staff members. 
  • Provide an atmosphere conducive to developing good morale and well-being among the camp community (campers & staff)
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of pre-camp trainings.
  • Serve as the direct supervisor, but also as a support, to all Activity Leaders (ALs) to ensure weekly camp activities are creative, fun, and safe.
  • Support and Supervise Assistant Unit Leaders (AUL) specializing in a high risk program (Adventure, Lifeguards, Archery) by providing training and practice opportunities during camp staff orientation and through out the summer to ensure skill verifications are completed.
  • Serve as a leadership presence and support to all camp staff and counsel staff on an as-needed basis.
  • In the absence of both the Camp Manger and the Unit Supervisor assumes full responsibility of summer camp operations and is responsible for the supervision of the staff and campers taking part in the weekly summer camp session.
  • Cover ratio in activities and fill in as instructor when necessary.
  • Responsible for organizing and redistributing activity rosters to staff in a timely manner for all elective activity sessions.
  • Participate in “all-camp” activities to ensure that they are inclusive to all levels and abilities. 
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities and units, for campers and staff, by always adhering to State of PA Regulations, American Camping Association (ACA), Girl Scout Safety Activity Check Points (SAC), and GSHPA policies.

Requirements

  • Minimum 21 years of age, 25 preferred 
  • Experience in supervision of children required.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Girl Scout, Girl Guide, or similar experience preferred. 
  • Camping or Summer Camp experience required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree (or in process of obtaining) in Camp Administration, Education, Outdoor Education or related degree, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a camp leadership setting preferred.
  • Prior experience in executing program experiences or knowledge of program management preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate staff and campers to participate in activities and lead activities in a flexible, professional manner and in accordance with GSHPA strategies.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must present a current form of ID affirming female gender at time of hire.
  • Required to submit to a drug test upon arrival at GSHPA Summer Camp.
  • Ability to quickly respond to emergencies 24/7 when on camp property and follow GSHPA established emergency procedures.
  • Ability to live and work in the outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
  • Willingness to live on camp for the entirety of their assigned camp season. 
  • Must be able to pass required background checks.
