The Camp Director is responsible for the overall implementation of the GSSJC day camp programs. The Camp Director supervises the Assistant Camp director indirectly supervises all counselor staff

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following and other duties as required or assigned.

  • Ensures that compliance with regulations governed by the following is met: GSUSA Policies, Standards and Guidelines, GSSJC Policies and Operational Procedures, American Camp Association (ACA) regulations and standards, governmental and affiliated organization regulations, and standards.
  • Oversees complete operation of camp, including but not limited to: management of staff, check-in and check-out procedures, camp site operation and equipment care (in cooperation and communication with GSSJC Facilities Department), program organization and management, food planning, and emergency camp protocol and procedures (i.e., health, fire, storm, evacuation, and drills).
  • Plans and conducts staff trainings, in-services, and meetings.
  • Ensures correct business procedures and record-keeping practices are followed and budgets are adhered to.
  • Ensures all reports on camp operations/activities are completed accurately and in a timely manner and make recommendations for next season. Complete End-of-Summer reports as requested by supervisor.
  • Promotes high morale for staff and campers.
  • Serve as a role model and guide for campers by using appropriate behavior, language and attitude. Treats all campers and staff with respect and helps to build positive relationships that value and appreciate individual differences.
  • Assist counselor staff when not performing program related duties.
  • Attends all camper gathering times, actively participating in activities.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in council-led training regarding child safety, discrimination and harassment training, safety training and others training as may be assigned. If a training requires a test after completion, a passing grade is required.
  • Embraces and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging as an integral part of every activity and plan of Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council.
  • Creates a culture of Customer Service Excellence by treating each interaction as an opportunity to provide courteous, timely and quality service, and by exhibiting professional behavior becoming of the Girl Scout brand, Promise and Law.
  • Maintains Girl Scout uniform and GSUSA membership.
  • Works collaboratively on council initiatives.
  • Supports a culture of philanthropy and consider a personal gift to GSSJC and United Way.
  • Participates in conferences and staff meetings.
  • For safety purposes, refrains from wearing jewelry during camp activities.
  • Agrees to wear required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) provided by Girls Scouts of San Jacinto during designated camp activities.
