Starting Salary:   $17.55 per hour, $36,500 per year

 

Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada is seeking full time Membership Specialist to provides a quality, customer-centered and consistent experience resulting in girl and volunteer membership growth. This position develops, retains, and increases girl/adult membership in assigned areas; recruits and provides ongoing support to volunteers; assists in developing and implementing plans for membership extension in all markets; represents and extends Girl Scouting in the community through presentations, collaborative efforts, and networking; and ensures the Girl Scout Leadership Experience is accessible within assigned area.

 

This position supports the council's volunteer management system including the recruitment, screening, selection, placement, development, training, recognition, and reassignment of volunteers; works collaboratively with staff teams and volunteers in assigned areas to analyze membership data and set, implement, and reach membership goals.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may need to be assigned according to the particular needs of the council.

Member Recruitment

  • Recruit new girl and adult members to grow membership within region through recruitment tactics which includes recruitment and community events, community outreach & troop formation meetings to form new troops.
  • Recruit adult volunteers to key leadership positions within a troop. Help to recruit volunteers within a community to help support recruitment efforts.
  • Organizes and implements troop membership recruitment, registration, and placement  efforts
  • Works as inside and outside sales, converting qualified leads into registered volunteers or members
  • Markets to the appropriate demographic populations in assigned areas
  • Identifies and recruits adults to fill open volunteer positions at all levels of the organization
  • Facilitates the implementation of membership recruitment plans and activities year-round  for each service unit and participates in the development of the council-wide membership recruitment strategy
  • Facilitates live in-person and virtual recruitment events

Volunteer Management

  • Assists potential volunteers in finding a role appropriate for their skills, interests, and time constraints and guide them through the onboarding process
  • Provides for high quality communication, customer service, and follow-up to meet the needs of volunteers as they are approved and placed in a role
  • Attend all mandatory and regular meetings/events including but not limited to all-staff, departmental, team, and other staff meetings/events when requested or assigned.
  • Promote good working relationships with staff and volunteers.

Troop Support & Retention

  • Provides general troop support in assigned geographic areas; optimizes the use of technology (including the customer relationship management system, Salesforce) in providing customer service support for volunteers
  • Serves as the liaison between assigned geographic areas and the larger Girl Scouting Movement; answers, problem-solves, manages and responds appropriately to all inquiries including but not limited to email, phone, and in-person customers
  • Delivers orientations and ongoing mentorship to new troop leaders in assigned geographic areas
  • Ensures girl and adult retention through ongoing proactive and reactive support
  • Prepares and reviews a variety of status reports including membership development, troop rosters, weekly activity reports, team status reports and others as assigned.

 

Service Unit Organization and Support

  • Identifies, recruits and trains service unit team members to meet the needs of their region
  • Works collaboratively with the service unit team to develop and implement an annual plan for their region
  • Provides coaching, support, facilitation, information and guidelines necessary for service units’ success
  • Develops strategies to support communities where a service unit structure does not exist
  • Participates in leader meetings and Service Unit activities

 

Qualifications


  • College degree in a relevant course of study, or 2-3 years of equivalent professional experience. Experience in membership or non-profit youth organization a plus.
  • Experience in membership recruiting or sales with a proven track record of consistently exceeding goals
  • Experience with and understanding of volunteer management is beneficial
  • Must be able to recruit, train, retain and supervise multiple volunteers
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e., Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word), SharePoint, team/knowledge sharing tools, etc.
  • Previous Customer Relationship Management (CRM) application and experience with Salesforce preferred.
  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish a plus but not required
  • Must be able to read documents, write reports and correspondence
  • Able to speak effectively before individuals and groups
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required
  • Ability to manage a multi-project workload in multiple locations; exercise initiative and meet deadlines
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Must have a valid driver license, reliable transportation and insurance for necessary travel  to meetings and events
  • An initiative-taker who can work independently with minimal oversight; continually reassessing own skills and identifying areas for improvement; adaptable, organized, and attentive to detail
  • Skillfully uses active listening techniques to create dialogue and build relationships with potential new members, volunteers, staff, and communities
