What are the responsibilities and job description for the Floor Supervisor position at Girl & the Goat - Los Angeles?

Girl & the Goat LA is seeking a Floor Supervisor / Sommelier to join our team!

Stephanie Izard & Boka Restaurant Group, the company behind some of Chicago's top restaurants, is currently accepting resumes for a Floor Supervisor / Sommelier position at Girl & the Goat LA.

Boka Restaurant Group was founded in Chicago by Rob Katz and Kevin Boehm in 2003 and has become one of the premier chef-driven restaurant groups in the country. Anchored by partnerships with some of America's greatest chefs – Stephanie Izard, Chris Pandel, Lee Wolen, Gene Kato and Brian Lockwood – BRG has over 16 restaurants (and more forthcoming!) each of them crafted individually and conceptually unique.

Chef Stephanie Izard and her team are thrilled to join LA’s vibrant restaurant community and are taking advantage of the area’s incredible bounty of produce and long growing seasons. While Girl & the Goat shares the global influence and bold flavors of its Chicago flagship, the culinary team is crafting new dishes inspired by California produce seasons and local flavors.

This is a hybrid position that balances active floor leadership with sommelier responsibilities, reporting directly to the General Manager and Wine Manager, and is an ideal role for a wine-driven hospitality professional who thrives on the floor, loves engaging guests through a wine-forward service program, and is ready to grow into a broader management role.

Sommelier Responsibilities:

  • Be a visible, engaged presence on the floor, contributing to the flow and rhythm of service - Sommeliers at the Girl & the Goat LA are an integral part in curating a memorable dining experience for all our guests
  • Lead wine conversations of varying depths with our guests, guiding them through our list, in a polished and poised manner
  • Collaborate with service staff to execute thoughtful, seamless wine service

  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the wine program, including POS maintenance, ordering, stocking, and menu updates
  • Participate in weekly inventory counts and month-end audits
  • Assist with inventory audits at the close of each financial period
  • Support wine education and training for new and existing team members
  • Maintain an ongoing commitment to learning, growth, and expanding knowledge base

Floor Supervisor Responsibilities:

  • Help manage the dining room during service, including table touches, food running, overseeing staff, and monitoring the door.
  • Execute opening duties such as building floor plans, restaurant walk-throughs, checking opening emails, and leading pre-shift with staff
  • Closing the restaurant, including writing daily recaps, reconciling closing banks, and doing the final restaurant walk-through.
  • Assisting in training, coaching, support and performance management of hourly staff
  • Support reservation flow and door management as needed
  • Participate in weekly management meetings and contribute to operational discussions
  • Maintain constant awareness of the dining room and guest experience

Qualified Sommeliers must be energetic, enthusiastic, and have a great attitude.

  • At least 2 years of experience in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant
  • Possess exceptional floor presence
  • Must be able to demonstrate an extensive depth of knowledge on wine
  • Skilled in impeccable wine service and sharing wine knowledge with guests and service staff
  • Have a sound understanding of how we price wines and how to effectively manage cost in a high-volume restaurant
  • Prior floor sommelier experience encouraged but not required with strong foundational knowledge
  • CMS, WSET, or comparable certification programs are encouraged but not required

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as necessary
  • Safely and effectively use all necessary tools and equipment
  • Stand and walk for an entire shift, including moving safely through all areas of the restaurant.

In this position, a great attitude, problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities, flexibility, and a hard work ethic go a long way!

Boka Restaurant Group offers: competitive compensation, monthly dining incentives, 401(k) program, Health, Dental & Voluntary benefits package, ongoing education and development, and clear opportunities for growth within Boka Restaurant Group.
