POSITION SUMMARY (Assistant Coach)
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to support the leadership, organization, and supervision of the Middle School Volleyball program in alignment with the mission of the total athletic program at GPS. This individual will assist the head coach in providing direction, instruction, and encouragement to student-athletes, helping them develop their skills, discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork. The assistant coach will contribute to a positive, competitive, and supportive team culture that reflects the values of Girls Preparatory School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists the head coach in instructing and demonstrating skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement in volleyball, supporting the educational and personal growth of team members.

Helps implement and maintain a standard of performance consistent with the institution’s goals of athletic excellence while supporting the school’s expectations for academic and personal discipline.

Aids in planning and organizing activities, practices, and interscholastic contests. Supports the head coach in developing appropriate training programs and practice schedules. Travels with student-athletes on the team bus to and from all games.

Promotes discipline, emphasizes good sportsmanship in word and behavior, and models healthy lifestyles. Supports and advocates the school’s belief in the value of multi-sport participation.

Assists in supervising students in locker rooms at home and away games and ensures appropriate behavior. Helps maintain a safe environment for all student-athletes at all times.

Collaborates with the head coach and athletic director in preparing practice and game schedules, managing equipment and supplies, and ensuring all necessary forms and documentation are collected. Communicates facility or equipment needs promptly to the head coach or athletic director.

Maintains required certifications and training. Follows and remains knowledgeable of all TSSAA and NFHS policies, rules, and procedures, as well as GPS departmental policies outlined in the Coaches’ Handbook.

Communicates and interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, and officials, resolving conflicts professionally. Represents Girls Preparatory School with integrity and respect at all times.

Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)

A minimum of two (2) years coaching secondary volleyball, preferably female student-athletes.

Knowledge of NFHS and TSSAA Rules for volleyball.

Demonstrated commitment to building cultural competencies and empowering students to engage across differences.
