Position Summary:
The Shift Foreman - Operations coordinates production responsibilities and directs support departmental needs to meet customer demand in accordance with established policies, principles, and procedures. The Shift
Foreman will oversee the plant when the Superintendent or General Foreman are not available.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:

- Makes operational decisions when the Operations Manager or the Operations Supervisor are not present.
- Develops plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and employees.
- Review’s product quality modifies process set points to maintain a balance of flow thru the operational unit and enhance profitable operation of division.
- Leads / supervises operations team and indirect reports in support areas.
- Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, training, and evaluation of these teams.
- Assist with interviewing, training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.
- Assist with appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining employees.
- Enforce safety and sanitation regulations.
- Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs.
- Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.
- Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
- Demonstrate equipment operations and work and safety procedures to new employees or assign employees to experienced workers for training.
- Observe work and monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards.
- Confer with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems, complaints, or grievances.
- Interpret specifications, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers.
- Follow and implement all GMR policies and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned, including field work.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Technical or Vocational training or education highly preferred.
- Minimum 5 years progressive supervision / management experience in metals / casting / hydro metallurgical manufacturing.
- Strong interpersonal skills in communication.
- Good at dealing with the uncertainty / subjectivity.
- Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries and complaints.
- Must be able to calculate figures and amounts for all related job responsibilities.
- Must use utmost discretion in all presentations, correspondence and communication with and for staff and top management.
- Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office with the ability to build multiple spreadsheets which can be transformed into clear and concise reports.
- Work daily with computer systems such as Excel, ERP, ADP, and ABB manufacturing systems.
- Always demonstrate positive employee relations skills.
- Must be able to establish credibility at all levels of the organization.
- Must be a strong people manager and excellent communicator with the ability to build diverse, high performing teams.
- Must have knowledge of Policy Deployment, Value Stream Management, Six Sigma, Lean equipment management, Quality Systems management, etc.
- A passion for continuous improvement, a history of demonstrated results and the ability to mentor/develop other is requisite.
- Be an expert both at the tactical levels of implementation with an eye as to how they support he strategic vision.
- Proficient at using / teaching the tools & philosophies which achieve both cultural change and bottom- line business results.
Working Conditions:
- Work will be performed in a plant facility, outdoors in all weather conditions to include extreme heat, wind and precipitation. Work may be performed in tight, confined spaces that require appropriate
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Regularly exposed to dust, noise, odors, chemicals and fumes. Appropriate PPE will be provided, and employees are required to always wear designated PPE.
- Nights, weekends, and holidays may be required per the established schedule or as needed to meet construction goals.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to:
- Push, pull and lift a minimum of 50 pounds of material and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
- Sit at a desk and operate a computer for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to stand, sit, walk, reach, bend, squat, kneel, and climb stairs/ladders.
- Must be able to pass respirator fit test, background check, and a drug and alcohol test.
- Must be able to operate heavy machinery as needed for the job.
- Must wear safety gear and required PPE.
