Description
General Definition:
- Responsible for all aspects of claim.
Essential Job Functions:
- Answers phones
- Takes entries in the booth
- Registers foal papers & silks
- Inputs foal papers in computer
- Inputs entries in computer both before & after the draw
- Assists with workout rule / Assist with approved list – gate, first time starters, and turn
- Assists at the draw
- Assists Identifier in checking and maintaining the Coggins list
- Takes claim from box at 15 minutes to post.
- Ensures claim envelope and claim card is filled out properly (spelling, date etc.)
- Contacts Horsemen’s Bookkeeper to verify funds
- Contacts Racing Commission to ensure parties are properly licensed
- Contacts Stewards with all claim information and notifies of any problems/concerns.
- Notifies the appropriate personnel of claimed horse & parties involved
- Maintains claimed horses list (distribute lists); coordinates with identifier.
- Assists Paddock Judge between claiming races
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 1 years related experience and/or training; or combination.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must be knowledgeable of the Rules of Racing.
- Able to work at a fast pace in often crowded/noisy environment
- Excellent customer service/communication skills
- Must meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy.
- Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to read and communicate verbally in English.
- Written communication skills in English may also be required.
Training:
- 1 year work related experience and/or training; or combination.
Licenses/Certifications/Other:
- Must be able to pass a background check and receive a license or permit from any Regulatory Agency, if applicable to perform the essential job functions
- Texas Racing Commission License (TXRC)
