SUMMARY: The payroll specialist is an administrative professional responsible for managing the payroll system, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time by calculating wages, processing deductions, and complying with tax regulations, while maintaining accurate payroll records and addressing employee payroll inquiries; essentially acting as the primary point of contact for all payroll-related matters.
OVERVIEW OF YOUR DAILY TASKS:
- Gathering timesheet information, verifying hours worked, and inputting employee data into the payroll system.
- Calculating gross pay, overtime, commissions, and any other applicable earnings based on employee pay structure.
- Managing employee deductions including taxes (federal, state, local), health insurance premiums, retirement contributions, and other authorized deductions.
- Generating paychecks or direct deposits, ensuring accurate distribution of funds to employee accounts.
- Complying with federal, state, and local tax regulations by filing necessary payroll tax returns and remittances.
- Maintaining accurate payroll records, including employee information, timekeeping data, and payroll transaction history.
- Performing periodic checks on payroll data to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Addressing employee questions regarding paychecks, deductions, benefits, and payroll policies.
- Managing court-ordered garnishments and deductions.
- Generating payroll reports for management, including summaries of wages, deductions, and tax liabilities
- Comply with company policies and procedures and local, state, and federal regulations.
- Interact in a tactful, diplomatic, and professional, manner with employees, clients/vendors, supervisors, and co-workers to provide a safe, efficient, and positive experience and quality service.
- Maintain a dependable attendance record and adhere to standards of cleanliness.
- Any additional duties assigned by management.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE TO HELP YOU SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE:
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in ADP Workforce Now
- Strong mathematical skills for accurate calculations
- Proficiency with payroll software and data entry
- Attention to detail to maintain accuracy in payroll processing

- Excellent organizational skills to manage deadlines and payroll cycles
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Effective communication skills to address employee questions and concerns
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, but experience and/or other training/certification may be substituted for the education.
- 5 years experience in payroll administration.
Preferred:
- Certified Payroll Professional or Fundamental Payroll Certification credential.
- Experience processing payroll with Rippling and ADP
