Position Summary: GVN is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Scientific Project Manager to oversee and coordinate key scientific and research initiatives, ensuring the successful execution of projects that support global virus research and response efforts. The Scientific Project Manager will work closely with GVN Program Director, Centers of Excellence, international virologists, researchers, public health agencies, and funding organizations to drive project goals, timelines, and deliverables.


Responsibilities

  • Scientific Project Coordination: Manage and oversee global research projects, ensuring alignment with scientific objectives and global health priorities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with leading virologists, research institutions, funding agencies, and public health organizations to facilitate scientific partnerships and information exchange.
  • Grant & Research Funding Management: Assist in preparing grant applications, securing funding, and ensuring compliance with reporting and financial requirements.
  • Scientific Communication & Reporting: Compile and present research findings, project updates, and impact assessments for stakeholders, funders, and scientific committees.
  • Event & Meeting Organization: Collaborate with GVN Program Administrator and Program Director to coordinate scientific workshops, global conferences, and research training programs to foster collaboration among virologists.
  • Monitoring & Evaluation: Track scientific project progress, assess research impact and identify risks or challenges in achieving scientific objectives.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Oversight: Ensure projects adhere to ethical research guidelines, biosafety standards, and funding agency regulations.
  • Process Optimization: Develop and implement best practices for managing scientific projects within an international research network


Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (PhD) in Virology, Microbiology, Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related scientific field.
  • 5 years of project management experience in scientific research, public health, or global health initiatives.
  • A strong understanding of infectious diseases, virology, or epidemiology is highly preferred.
  • Experience coordinating international research collaborations, clinical trials, or multi-stakeholder scientific initiatives.
  • Proficiency in scientific project management tools (e.g., Asana, Trello, Microsoft Project).
  • Excellent scientific writing and communication skills for grant applications, research publications, and presentations.
  • Familiarity with research funding mechanisms, grant compliance, and institutional review board (IRB) processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, global environment.
