What you will do
Alabama Sand & Gravel seeks a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for its Lowndesboro, AL site.
- Demonstrate proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment and materials
- Perform inspection, diagnostics and repairs on CAT Rock Trucks, Loaders and Dozers
- Conducts pre-trip/walk-around safety inspections and completes daily field level hazard assessments for all activities
- Communicate effectively and professionally with other team members
- Be a leader of both safety and production for the team by ensuring compliance with all company, client, and legislated safety policies and procedures
- Be able and willing to work overtime if needed
What we seek
- 2 years of experience as a heavy mobile equipment mechanic
- Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions and electrical systems
- Ability to work with limited supervision
- Valid driver’s license
- Must have current MSHA 5000-23 certification
- Perform physical functions per job requirements
- Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
- Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
- Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
Criteria/Working Conditions
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear, and see.
- Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to thirty (30) pounds during the workday.
- Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor or surface mine environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves, and any other protective equipment as required.
