What you will do

Alabama Sand & Gravel seeks a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for its Lowndesboro, AL site. 

• Demonstrate proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment and materials
• Perform inspection, diagnostics and repairs on CAT Rock Trucks, Loaders and Dozers
• Conducts pre-trip/walk-around safety inspections and completes daily field level hazard assessments for all activities
• Communicate effectively and professionally with other team members
• Be a leader of both safety and production for the team by ensuring compliance with all company, client, and legislated safety policies and procedures
• Be able and willing to work overtime if needed 

What we seek 

• 2 years of experience as a heavy mobile equipment mechanic 
• Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions and electrical systems
• Ability to work with limited supervision
• Valid driver’s license
• Must have current MSHA 5000-23 certification
• Perform physical functions per job requirements
• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
• Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
• Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment

Criteria/Working Conditions

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear, and see. 
• Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to thirty (30) pounds during the workday.
• Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor or surface mine environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves, and any other protective equipment as required.
• Ferroglobe promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment using mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as per applicable State Laws
