The Gloucester County Facilities Management Department is seeking a Facilities Technician III to be a part of their hard-working efficient Team.
Under general supervision, as a member of a “multi-trade” team, the Mechanical Tech III performs moderate to complex skilled work in the maintenance of the County’s buildings and grounds. Work involves operating light machinery, using a variety of basic hand tools, and specialized power tools.
Employee must exercise initiative and some independent judgment in ensuring proper completion of assigned tasks.
Reports to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

Job Highlights
- Performs routine and more complex duties in building and mechanical repairs and maintenance.
- Paints County buildings and structures; ensures surfaces are properly primed and prepared.
- Performs skilled masonry work, using brick, cinderblock and concrete in the repair of sidewalks, foundations, floors and stucco.
- Performs skilled carpentry work including remodeling/renovation of existing County offices, wall fabrication, window and door installation and repair, flooring installation, and ceiling installation.
- Performs drywall work including sheetrock installation and finishing, plastering, waterproofing and repairs.
- Acts as lead worker on projects in area of expertise; may train other workers in proper techniques.
- Reads blueprints; makes field sketches as necessary.
- Repairs cracks/potholes in County parking lots and asphalt.
- Cleans storm drains, gutters and roofs; repairs roofs of County facilities.
- Creates and produces signs for use in County and School facilities using specialized graphics software.
- May perform metal repair and fabrication.
- Keeps shop clean and orderly; ensures equipment, tools and supplies are properly cleaned, stored and secured.
- May be called to assist in electrical, plumbing and HVVAC maintenance and installation when needed.
- Performs snow removal duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Five (5) to seven(7) years of progressively responsible experience in general facilities maintenance and 3 to 5 years of specialized training or experience in one or more of the following trades: carpentry, masonry, painting, welding, and hardware specialist.
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

Special Requirements
Possession of a valid driver’s license; possess and maintain a driving record that meets established Gloucester County Driving Standards.
Pass a post offer, pre-employment physical examination. Employee may be subject to subsequent physical examinations to ensure he/she meets job-related physical requirements.
Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), issued by the commonwealth of Virginia, may be required.
