Job Objectives: The School Custodial/Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining facilities for students, staff, and public in a safe operating condition; performing custodial and preventive maintenance; and resolving immediate operational, hygiene and/or safety concerns in conjunction with other members of the maintenance crew.

Minimum Qualifications:
· High school diploma. Post-secondary training in a trade is desirable.
· Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test, etc.).
· Documentation of a clear criminal record.
· Complies with drug-free workplace rules and school policies.
· School or closely related building custodial/maintenance experience.
· Ability to perform repetitive physical labor including regularly lifting parcels of up to 50 pounds and moving of furniture, and to climb a ladder
· Possess current NJ Low-Pressure License, and be familiar with boiler operations, preventive maintenance, and repair procedures.
· Valid driver’s license. Meets all prerequisite and ongoing qualifications to be covered by the school’s insurance carrier.
· Available to respond to building and/or service emergencies.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
The following duties are representative of performance expectations. A

· Conduct a daily walkthrough inspection of building interiors, building exteriors, auxiliary facilities and grounds.
· Takes the initiative to perform routine tasks independently.
· Monitors building conditions during working hours.
· Performs preventive maintenance procedures.
· Helps with the receipt of deliveries. Inspects packages for damage. Verifies quantities. Organizes and stores supplies.
· Picks-up and delivers equipment, materials, and other supplies as directed.
· Inspects safety equipment (e.g., emergency lights, alarm systems, ground fault protectors, etc.) daily.
· Anticipates needs and replenishes supplies to avoid work schedule interruptions.
· Actively participates in maintenance team training activities.
· Promptly documents all injuries that require medical attention.
· Immediately reports suspected problems and/or unsafe conditions.
· Maintains clear routes to fire exits.
· Repairs structures, equipment, and furnishings.
· Helps installs equipment.
· Assists with snow removal operations.
· Takes appropriate action during adverse weather conditions.
· Responds to building emergencies as required.
· Acts responsibly to protect school equipment and property.
· Helps deal with unexpected circumstances or pressing school needs.
· Secures building at the end of the workday.
· Participates in response to alarm calls from security company as directed.
· Complies with safety regulations and environmental laws.
· Assists rental groups as needed.
· Upholds school policies and follows administrative procedures.
· Consults with the Facility Manager as needed to ensure compliance with building codes and ADA accessibility standards.
· Keeps the Lead Maintenance Worker and Facility Manager informed about work progress.
· Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
