The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will facilitate patient care during each scheduled office visit. In addition, the CMA will assist the provider with any patient care issues including but limited to follow up, prescription refills, prior authorizations, vital signs, scheduling, referrals, etc. The CMA will contribute to a positive patient experience. The CMA will be an active participant in the organization to maintain a positive, healthy work environment. Certified Medical Assistants must not refer to themselves or allow patients to refer to them as nurses or licensed personnel.

Essential Job Duties:
- Provide care to all patients utilizing principles and ethical standards, while following Good Samaritan mission and vision, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications.
- Prepare all patient charts prior to office visit, welcomes patient to office by greeting them, verifies patient identity, helps gather all pertinent information from patient regarding health concerns, symptoms they are presenting with.
- Obtain vital signs appropriately, reviews all medications with patient, ensures all current medications within EHR are being taken accurately. Review allergies with patient, updates EHR if needed. Review and updates patient medical, surgical, social and family history.
- Completes patient questionnaires/screenings needed to help provider ensure patient has met all patient needs. Including but not limited to; the fall screen, tobacco screening, social determinates of health, depression screening, at risk behavior screening.
- May perform point of care testing, must document results accurately in chart. May administer subcutaneous, intramuscular injections under supervision of provider or RN. May remove bandages, sutures, staples, cast as directed by provider. Will be responsible to assist provider during office procedures.
- May refill medications under supervision of provider, following GSPN policies. May call patients with result notes under supervision of provider.
- May document and route telephone calls, report patient questions and concerns to provider, will be responsible to return telephone calls with orders/suggestion from provider.
- Clean and Stock exam rooms thoroughly between patients, sterilize medical instruments according to policies.
- Schedule patient appointments including follow up’s with PCP, schedule test and procedures ordered by provider for patient. Ensure referrals are placed correctly, ensure referrals are completed and documentation is received and placed into chart if necessary.
Secondary Job Duties:
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education – Required: graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program. Certification through an accrediting organization for Medical Assistants.
