The ART Activity Specialist teaches and facilitates a youth centered class tailored to their specific expertise. Candidates with the following expertise are encouraged to apply:
Reports To: Program Director, Lawrence Jones
Location: COMPASS PS 297 - 700 Park Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11206
Hours: 8 - 12 hours / week; Non Exempt, September-June (Monday-Friday 2:30pm-5:30pm)
Salary: $19 / HR - $25 / HR
The Art Activity Specialist will create and implement classes/workshops encouraging students creativity through various types of art, i.e. painting, drawing, clay etc.
Major Duties:
- Assist in the recruitment of class participants and retaining participants
- Create and facilitate art activities for groups of up to 25 participants.
- Develop art curriculum (based on students interest) encompassing an array of different aspects of the art industry; providing participants with experience and knowledge of various artistic professions. Curriculum will promote creativity, self-expression, mastery, and emotional and professional growth.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings
- Create a youth development, strengths based environment, fostering a sense of belonging, safety, and community to participants.
- Arrange setup, operation and clean up of activities and the organization, inventory and storing of relevant supplies and equipment.
- Document classes/workshop planning as required
- Lead presentations for two culminating events (one per semester) showcasing students work.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience and/or training relevant to the position required.
- Candidates with some college, experience with adolescents and teaching/coaching youth are encouraged to apply.
- Flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm for young people
- Excellent planning, organization and time management skills
- Ability to engage youth, while setting structure and limits in a group setting.
- Energetic, motivated self-starter and a team player
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth and family development and trauma-informed perspective.
- Must complete DOH and DOE clearances
