What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Handler position at Goodwill Industries of Wayne/Holmes Counties?
FUNCTION: Handles and transports materials to designated areas. Operates tow motor, pallet jacks, and electric pallet jacks daily to assist with required tasks.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Operates tow motor/forklift daily (training provided) to aid in moving product throughout the Goodwill warehouse.
- Must inspect forklift/tow motor each shift before operation.
- Loads & unloads material from trucks and places in proper areas at the Goodwill warehouse.
- Maintains records of materials collected and stored product at the Goodwill warehouse.
- Dumps trash/metals into designated containers and tracks daily counts accurately.
- Bales cardboard using cardboard baling machine and stacks bales in proper staging areas at the Goodwill warehouse.
- Follows inventory and staging procedures to maintain an organized and orderly warehouse.
- Routinely cleans warehouse floor, dock areas, and outside areas. This may include sweeping, using tow motor magnet, collecting trash and debris, etc.
- May be required to operate small, automatic box truck to assist with deliveries/pickups or donation events.
- May assist other areas of the organization with loading/unloading, donation collection, cleaning, etc.
- Must be able to read, write and perform basic math functions (add, subtract,
multiply & divide)
- Must be able to regularly lift up to 50 lbs., frequently lift up to 100 lbs. and occasionally lift over 100 lbs.
- Must be able to stoop, squat, bend, pull, or twist as part of routine daily work
- Must be cooperative, friendly and well-groomed at all times. Must always properly wear safety gear and uniforms.
- Provides exemplary customer service to customers.
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays as scheduled and may be required to work overtime hours as directed by supervisor or VP.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Warehouse and Transportation Manager and VP of Donated Goods and Marketing.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Position Supervised: None
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience: 1-2 years of relevant experience is preferred
Certification: Forklift
Other Requirements:
License Check - valid driver’s license and proof of insurability
Background Checks - The offer of employment will be based on the outcome of the background check
Drug and Alcohol Screen - Must pass a drug and alcohol screen prior to employment. Subject to random testing.
