Position Summary:
The Family Advocate is responsible for providing in person services to families participating in the Grace Smith House Nonresidential Follow-Up Program. These services include individual supportive and crisis counseling, facilitating support groups, advocacy and accompaniment, providing transportation, making referrals depending on client needs, coordination of services, and collaboration with outside agencies. The Family Advocate works cooperatively with other staff in the planning and implementation of work done with the families as well as within the program.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct intake screenings, risk assessment, safety planning, and help to establish goals and provide ongoing case management to accomplish goals set by the client.
- Provide emotional support to clients in the program.
- Provide information about community agencies and resources and provide referrals. Educate and provide information to families on domestic violence issues.
- Provide advocacy with the Department of Social Services, through court processes, and with other community agencies.
- Facilitate weekly domestic violence support group. Help with children’s groups if needed.
- Provide carryover services for families leaving the Shelter who continue with services in the Nonresidential Program.
- Operate agency vehicles to transport clients as needed.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred; Advanced degree or training highly desirable. Significant life experience working with domestic violence survivors may be considered.
Experience: 2- 3 years of experience in case management within a human service program.
Specialized Skills: Proficient in use of computers including Microsoft Word and database use.
Salary: $22 - $24 per hour
