Job Goal: To create a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for the academic standards as outlined in the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks in accordance with each students ability; and to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff membersSupervision: Reports to the Director of Pupil Services and Building Administration.Education, Work Experience, and Licensure: Required: Bachelor's degree, Massachusetts DESE License as English as a Second LanguageAcceptable C.O.R.I. and Fingerprint report as determined by the Superintendent.Preferred: At least one year of full-time experience. Demonstrated experience working in a diverse, multi-cultural academic setting preferred. Competency in use of current related educational technology.Performance Responsibilities: Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the time designated.Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs and abilities of the students identified as English Learners.Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media.Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.Act as a liaison between families and school staff whenever appropriate.Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.Make recommendations as needed to the Principal and Director of Pupil Services for students identified as ELL.Attend staff meetings as required.Designs activities for learning experiences that best utilize the available time for instruction.Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.Supervises students in activities outside the classroom during the assigned working day.Participates in curriculum development programs as required.Participates in faculty committees.Administers or monitors district and state wide assessments.Acts as a Mandated Reporter (Chapter 119, Section 51A).Complies with the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Policy.Other duties may be assigned by the Director of Pupil Services and/or Building PrincipalsSpecial Knowledge/Ability Required for the Position: Must be able to work collaboratively with faculty and parents/guardians to promote the educational development of students.
Has the ability to interact respectfully with teachers, parents, students and community members to promote a positive view of the school. Ability to respond appropriately to criticism from parents/guardians. Ability to work as a member of a team to promote the mission and goals of the school.Physical Requirements: The position requires a moderate amount of walking, standing, sitting and climbing stairs and step stool whenever necessary. Activities also include moderate physical exertion in body movement such as reaching, bending, twisting, grasping, pushing, and pulling of objects.
The position requires lifting objects of 20 pounds on a frequent basis, and over 20 pounds occasionally. There is a frequent requirement of fine manipulation associated with the required use of a computer, typewriter, keyboard, calculator, and other business machines.Environmental Conditions: The employee is required to work indoors and outdoors.
