What are the responsibilities and job description for the IT Systems Specialist position at Grand Forks?

Education:                High School Diploma or High School Equivalency

 

Required

Qualifications:        Minimum of one year experience in computer technician services or post-secondary coursework in computer technician services.  Experience and demonstrable skill in maintaining, servicing and troubleshooting computers using Macintosh and Windows operating systems. Experience or demonstrable skills communicating and working in a professional environment.

 

Preferred

Qualifications:        Relevant industry certifications in information technology.

 

Job Summary:         General maintenance and support of school district computer systems and associated technology. The main focus is Macintosh/Chromebook/Windows devices and related operating systems. Work with end users and technology staff to identify issues and implement solutions. Work with a variety of vendors, support companies and state entities to insure minimum down time for all equipment and programs. Learn new operating systems and applications as they become available.

                                     

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Point person for designated areas of expertise and develops an instructional plan to help other IT staff members become more efficient and valuable.
  • Maintains and manages all PC, Mac, IPads and Chromebooks at designated schools. Manages printer and copier installation process at designated schools.
  • Maintains and manages a documented inventory report for all computers and related technology at designated schools.
  • Provides support, repair and maintains interactive projectors, boards, and amplification systems in classrooms at designated schools.
  • Modify/move/reconfigure computer lab equipment such as desktop computers, printers, and the furniture to best fit the workflow within the lab setting.
  • The initial contact person to troubleshoot IT device issues at designated schools and assists with troubleshooting major IT issues at each designated school
  • Provides File Server user folder permissions and configures drive mappings if needed for specialized file storage areas based on user permissions.
  • Provide support within Google Admin for managing Chromebook device inventory, staff and student access permissions, and user account troubleshooting for various issues that arise.
  • Dis-assemble/ re-assemble PC desktop and PC and Apple laptop computers and Chromebooks, installing replacement parts.
  • Monitor support assistance system, prioritizing service requests so that they can get resolved in a timely manner.
  • Manages old inventory in each designated building and decides which devices need to be recycled and which devices can be repurposed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Information Technology Manager

 

Knowledge Required:

  • Principles and practices of technology management, system development and system integration in an educational environment.
  • The different types of operating systems and applications found on the technology devices at your designated schools.
  • The device replacement plan for all technology devices found at your designated schools. 
  • How to troubleshoot issues found on all technology devices and understands how to effectively come up with a timely solution. 
  • The importance of documenting procedures when troubleshooting or repairing devices.
  • The distribution and management of all devices connected to the network at each designated school. User management and security control for the different student and staff information systems. 
  • Organizational techniques used to manage user login privileges, file access control and remote network access through the Virtual Private Network.
  • Planning and managing the implementation of technology projects related to each designated school. Safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards, and safety precautions in work sites. 

Skills Required:

  • Effectively using verbal and written communication when collaborating with IT staff.
  • Understanding the importance of maintaining a good working relationship with all IT staff members and understanding the proper uses of technology in an educational environment.
  • Understanding state and federal regulations governing technology functions in an educational environment.
  • Prioritizing job tasks throughout the day and plans work completion accordingly. Enforcing security policies on all GFPS technology devices.
  • Understands the importance of providing all users on the GFPS network with the tools necessary to complete an employee’s workday and a student’s educational experience.
  • Understanding the operating systems found on a PC, Mac, and Chrome books.
  • Effectively diagnosing and repairing all applications and hardware issues with technology devices found at each designated school.

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.  

 

Terms of Employment:  Twelve (12) months
