Position Title: Wellness Director
Reports to: Senior Director of Membership and Wellness
Department: Wellness
Classification: Full-Time, Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Wellness Director will provide premiere membership experience, value, service and retention programs by planning, budgeting, promoting, and implementing all wellness programs and initiatives. The director is accountable for the operational oversight and management of all wellness related programming including but not limited to group fitness, personal training, active older adult programs, chronic disease programs, equipment orientations, youth, teen, and family health & well- being activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop, implement, and oversee all wellness programs that reflect the community’s needs while maintaining the YMCA’s high standards of quality, safety, and character development
- Creating promotional activities for all age groups that are designed to attract and retain new members
- Provide oversight to the overall operations of the wellness center
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, supervise and evaluate wellness department staff
- Develop, manage, and monitor the wellness budget to meet or exceed fiscal objectives
- Build and maintain a personal client base as a wellness center staff and/or program instructor while also building wellness staff face-time with members and participants
- Cultivate relationships with local community health facilities to encompass health programs in relation to member needs
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of participation in programs and make recommendations based on trends
- Work with supervisor to make recommendations on strategic direction for wellness department
- Responsible for maintaining and evaluating a preventative maintenance plan for all wellness equipment while ensuring uncompromising levels of cleanliness and safety
- Dedicated work hours per week in service for key programs and initiatives as deemed necessary by the needs of the organization
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.A. or B.S. exercise science degree or a related field from an accredited college or university
- At least 5 years of experience in health and wellness leadership
- Preferred personal training and/or group fitness experience and certifications
- Strong communication skills and the ability to relate well to the public
- Proven ability to build a robust team with diverse responsibilities
- Exceptional customer service and delivery skills
- Current certification in CPR and AED; complete trainings in Child Abuse Prevention and Blood Borne Pathogens within 60 days of hire
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
- Employee may occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds
- Flexible work hours as needed including evenings and weekends
