What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Programmer position at Grand Valley Manufacturing?
The CNC Programmer will be responsible for developing programs to be used on multiple types of milling and turning machines to maximize production efficiencies and minimize cost and waste.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Utilize customer supplied drawings or CAD models to support program development.
- Generate tool paths by researching and determine the most appropriate tooling for the job.
- Utilize CAM software to write programs, entering tool registries, start and endpoints, offsets, and conditional switches.
- Ensure all necessary notes and comments are added.
- Read, interpret, and verify code. Check complete programs by running simulations or tests. Adjust code as needed.
- Prepare manufacturing process packet, as needed
- Design, create, and modify jigs, fixtures, and tooling as needed.
- Utilize approved vendor list to research and order tooling. Create purchase orders for parts/specialized tooling.
- Assist operators in machine set-up and process troubleshooting.
- Research and act as a technical support for the purchase of additional equipment and/or software.
- Miscellaneous programming, as needed.
- Participate in pre-production planning and project management, as needed.
- Understand machine set-up/processes including tooling and machine speeds and feeds.
- Proactively participate in process improvement to maximize production.
- Able to read and understand CNC G-code language, blueprints, and GD&T.

Requirements:
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Associates Degree in CNC programing, three to five years’ experience of programming in a manufacturing setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficient in CAM, SolidWorks, and Esprit. Experience operating a CNC machine is a plus.
Preferred Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with an emphasis in Excel.
- Able to think critically, conceptually, and analytical to proactively problem solve
- Excellent communication skills; Must be able to read, write, and comprehend instructions.
- Must be able to convey detailed/complex information in written or verbal format.
- Excellent mathematical skills, with an emphasis in geometry and trigonometry.
- Mechanical and technical knowledge of machining equipment.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, consistently meeting deadlines with accurate and detailed results.
- Able to work as part of a team.
