What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Mechanic 3 - HVAC Technician position at Grays Harbor College?

Classified positions at Grays Harbor College have been designated as bargaining unit positions represented by the Washington Public Employees Association, Local 365. The union and the college have a collective bargaining agreement (referred to as the contract) that is posted on the GHC website.
- Installation, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of air handlers, air flow dampers, V belts, sheaves, pulleys, and bearings; maintains and repairs commercial refrigeration equipment used in air conditioning, ventilation, and chilled water systems;
- Inspects, maintains and repairs plumbing, heating, water, cooling, refrigeration, sewer and fire suppression systems;
- Analyzes and maintains control systems that include electrical, electronic, and pneumatic sensors and actuators; lay out, fabricate, and install mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic temperature and humidity controls for heating and ventilation systems; repair relays, timers, meters, and switches with local or remote computer control; reads and interprets blueprints;
- Monitors and adjusts heat and air conditioning in buildings using automated building monitoring and control systems;
- Operates and maintains fluid and electronic testing and measuring instruments, such as manometers, air flow and liquid flow meters, volt meters, ammeters and potentiometers; keeps records of work performed and supplies used; use such tools as drill presses, grinders, bandsaws, hand drills, testers, welding equipment, soldering guns, small hand tools and specialized apparatus; estimates and orders materials and supplies needed to maintain equipment in good working condition; leads and instructs helpers;
- Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of mechanical equipment such as electrical drive motors, kitchen, laboratory and air-conditioning equipment; changes oil, greases, changes or cleans filters, drive belts, sprockets, shafts, and bearings to ensure proper operation;
- Performs preventative maintenance such as oil change, lubrication, fix flats, repair lights, replace fan belts, etc., on shop equipment, vehicles and construction equipment;
- Monitor safety, fire protection and environmental control equipment to ensure the building systems and equipment are operation in a satisfactory condition; respond to service request and secure necessary assistance; take preventative and emergency action to control malfunctions;
- Operates hand tools, power tools and other shop equipment; fabricates materials and equipment;
- Remodels and constructs facilities in accordance with project requirements; assists in the preparation of engineering data under the direction of an engineer;
- Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical connections, switches, circuits, electrical equipment, thermostats, and valves;
- Performs other work as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Current refrigeration handler’s certificate covering Class I and Class II refrigerants; completion of comprehensive HVAC course with coursework in: heat pump systems; geothermal systems; chilled water systems; commercial refrigeration systems; and HVAC controls. Equivalent education and experience will be considered in lieu of the specific qualifications listed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Washington State specialty electrician certification (06A or 06B), or equivalent work and educational experience.
