Agricultural Science Assistant assists the science department with the care and maintenance of Grayson College's Agricultural Farm over summer months.
Location: Grayson College Main Campus and West Campus Extension in Denison, TX
Terms: June 3rd - August 5th working Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings and early afternoons or as needed. This is a part-time position of 19 hours or less per week with an hourly salary of $19.00.
Responsibilities
JOB DUTIES
- Checking Berry bushes and irrigation system for any issues each day
- Counting goats and chickens each day
- Feeding and watering goats and chickens
- Spend time handling the goats checking the animals and their well being: hooves, looking at their weight, eyes, fur, etc..
- Gathering and washing eggs, package with proper labeling and deliver to Director of Vic's Market.
SAFETY
● Alerting Lead Ag Science Assistant for any emergency situation - who will alert the vet immediately● Assuring that gates and doors are locked when duties are complete and animals are safe● Walk the fence line each day to check for any maintenance issues, especially the electric fence- just alert Lead Ag Science Assistant to see how to move forward
CLEANING
● Scrubbing water buckets twice weekly● Cleaning out hay feeder as needed● Cleaning chicken coops as needed● Cleaning out ag barn as needed
MAINTAIN RECORDS
● Recording all information each day on spreadsheet for quality assurance
Performance Measurements: 1. Demonstrates the Viking Values of balance, clarity, gratitude, service, teamwork, and trust.2. Provides friendly service, maintaining an effective and supportive relationship with students, faculty and staff. 3. Collaborates with the Science faculty to produce study aids and resources.
4. Participates in professional development and stays current in both the professional field and in current teaching/learning best practices.5. Maintains confidentiality of student records in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Acts (FERPA).6. Complies with all state and federal laws and regulations relating to higher education.7. Attends departmental meetings

Qualifications
Education: High School degree or GED equivalent, experience handling animals. Good organizational skills and reliability. The job requires some computer skills for tracking duties.
Physical Requirements: The work requires physical exertion. The job will entail moving heavy items, the employee must be able to life 75 pounds. The position requires a level of confidence with unpredictable behavior of farm animals.
Work Environment: Regular exposure to unfavorable environments hot weather and wet conditions will be common. Employees will be required to use good judgement regarding their exposure to adverse weather conditions.
