Job Description
Position: Shelter Advocate
Status: Non-Exempt (Fulltime)
Reports to: Shelter Coordinator
Purpose: To be a collaborative supporter and member of the Direct Service Team with the objective to support the mission of the Crisis Center and the residential and non-residential clients served by assisting with all of their needs while establishing and maintaining an environment that is consistent with agency values.
Responsibilities:
· Provide consistent coverage for assigned shifts, working within the team and independently to complete all shift tasks
· Answering phone, hotline crisis intervention coverage and responding to in-person inquiries in a professional manner.
· Provide appropriate information and referrals for those who need other resources
· Assist Survivor with needs and questions (vouchers, hygiene, food, etc.)
· Assist with Welcome Baskets and intake materials required for new residential Survivors
· Monitoring of Shelter and Survivor activities (access in/out Shelter)
· Perform general administrative functions such as noting within the communication log
· Maintain shelter order; conduct room checks; participate in or lead house meetings
· Maintenance of safety and security through monitoring of the security system
· Light housekeeping
· Provide support/educational groups as appropriate
· Provide support to Direct Service team and follows staff policies and procedures
· Assist with paperwork, filing and recordkeeping
· Assist with support and training of volunteers
· Attend all required meetings and training sessions
· Maintain clear and professional boundaries with clients
· Notify Shelter Coordinator or Executive Director (Supervisor on call) of any violent crisis situation or other incidents promptly
· Promptly complete assignments and documentation for client services
· Compliance with funding contractual obligations
· Support and back-up team to ensure shelter coverage
· Other duties as assigned by Shelter Coordinator and Executive Director

7. Always employ strategies of problem solving and smart, efficient solutions identifying new and improved ways of delivering the highest quality services to agency clients.
8. Ask for assistance when needed.
9. Maintain client and agency confidentiality and client privilege at all times.
10. Maintain knowledge of current family violence and sexual assault laws. Qualifications: Bachelor degree preferable in a social services field. Must demonstrate skills in crisis intervention, able to exercise discretion and independent judgment. Possess sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds, values and attitudes with excellent interpersonal communication skills. Ability to lift donations (up to 35 pounds). Possess a valid driver’s license and excellent driving record.
