- Monitor students in building and/or on campus. Watch for unauthorized persons, suspicious/criminal
- activity, disturbances, fights and school rule violations, report to proper authorities.
- Monitor surveillance camera system, conduct camera searches, and prepare back-up of incidents for law
- enforcement as needed.
- Observe and gather information regarding students using alcohol, drugs, gang activity and/or any other illegal activity.
- Assist administration with investigations as assigned.
- Monitor traffic flow before and after school and at functions.
- Conduct building sweep and secure assigned areas as requested.
- Prepare incident reports as requested.
- Escort students and visitors as needed.
- Assist staff with students who are disciplined and walk students to administration offices.
- Ensure students, staff, and visitors adhere to school board policies and regulations while on campus.
- Assist with evacuation of building during drills and actual emergencies or emergency lockdowns
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year, current law enforcement employment (Police/Sherriff Departments)

Job Description
Summary/objective
Responsible for monitoring campus to ensure the safety and security of students, staff and visitors.
Essential functions
Competencies
Vigilance and Alertness: Maintain a high level of vigilance and alertness at all times. Detect and assess potential threats or suspicious activities quickly and accurately. This includes monitoring surveillance equipment, patrolling premises, and staying attentive to any unusual behavior or situations.
Communication Skills: Convey information clearly and professionally, whether it's reporting incidents, giving instructions, or providing assistance. Strong communication skills also involve active listening to understand concerns and respond appropriately.
Problem-Solving Abilities: Analyze problems, make quick decisions, and implement appropriate solutions while adhering to security protocols and regulations. This could involve handling conflicts, resolving disputes, or responding to emergencies.
Adaptability: Adapt quickly to changing circumstances and manage stress effectively. Remain calm under pressure, maintain focus during emergencies, and adjust their tactics as needed to address evolving security threats. Flexibility and resilience to respond efficiently in various situations.

Work environment
The campus security officer typically works in an indoor school environment, but the mission of the school may require work in other settings including outdoors.
Physical demands
While performing the duties of this position, the campus security officer must be capable of performing demanding tasks, and equipped with the necessary training to effectively respond to security challenges while ensuring the safety and well-being of the school, which may include running to the location of the incident, assisting individuals in distress, or intervening to resolve conflicts. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. The campus security officer may be required to conduct regular patrols of school premises, which can involve walking or standing for extended periods. Patrolling may include covering large areas, stairwells, corridors, and outdoor spaces.
Travel required
Occasional travel within and outside of the Great Plains Technology Center district may be required for sponsorship of student activities, professional development, and participation in other Great Plains Technology Center activities.
