Job Description:
A Brief Overview

The Crisis Interventionist is responsible for providing direct support to people with varying degrees of mental illnesses and other related issues. The Crisis Interventionist will utilize intervention strategies to assist with rapid stabilization, de-escalation and therapeutic mediation. Conduct a thorough, accurate, clinically sound Triage/Psychosocial comprehensive mental health screening for qualifying patients presenting to the Health System as well as via tele-medicine. Gather collateral information from family, other providers, etc. in order to provide a more thorough assessment of immediate needs. Actively coordinate care, identify and address gaps in service needs and make appropriate recommendations. Conduct brief intervention counseling sessions. Utilize efficient use of psychiatric and medical resources,and facilitate safe and appropriate discharge planning. The Crisis Interventionist is a member of the Behavioral Health Assessment Team staff and attends affiliated staff meetings and in-services.

  • Crisis stabilization of patients.
  • Assist in de-escalation of agitated patients.
  • Implement intervention techniques for individuals.
  • Advocate for clients or patients to resolve crises.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to evaluate patients' medical or physical condition and to assess client needs.
  • Refer patient, client, or family to community resources to assist in recovery from mental or physical illness and to provide access to services such as financial assistance, legal aid, housing, job placement or education.
  • Provide accurate and professional psychosocial screenings in a timely manner. Displays quality interviewing, diagnostic and report-writing skills
  • Communicates effectively with the Treatment Team in determining the disposition of patients who present themselves in the Emergency Department or other departments within the Medical Center.
  • Documents clear and concise progress notes and screenings according to expected procedures and expected documentation standards
  • Engages in timely, efficient patient disposition. Works closely with patient, patient’s family, nursing staff, and attending physician. Shows good knowledge of referral/placement process and available community resources

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Arts/Sciences (MA/MS) Master’s Degree in Social Work or similar degree from an accredited program Preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or similar degree also considered Required
  • 4-6 years experience in mental health/social work settings with Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • MOAB training required at first available opportunity
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for counseling and guidance.
  • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, cultures and their history and origins.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Talking to others in a professional manner to convey information effectively and calmly.
  • Actively looking for ways to help people.
  • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Writing skills adequate to write narrative accounts.
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
Qualifications:
MOAB training and certification within 1 year of hire.
