BASIC FUNCTION :
The Graphic Designer intern position with the Greater Des Moines Partnership is budgeted for a minimum of 25 hours per week during the summer. The position serves to support the organization's creative and design needs. This person will work closely with the Communications and Marketing team to achieve success for all the organization's communications and marketing materials. The position is in-person at The Partnership office and requires excellent graphic design, time management, communication and organizational skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Create design assets for marketing campaigns and organization programming and initiatives.
Assist with creation of and making edits to existing promotional materials such as brochures, flyers, advertisements, newsletters, signage, banners, etc., while adhering to brand identity and brand standards.
Assist with photography library organization, photo editing and photo shoot planning and production. (The position will primarily fill graphic design related functions, but there is also opportunity to assist with photography and video related work, as workload allows, and candidate interest / background aligns to needs.)
Support creative for PowerPoint presentations.
Provide support to social media efforts.
Follow routing and feedback processes.
EDUCATION :
Working toward a degree or recently completed a degree in Art, Design, Graphic Design or related field. Education or training that includes project creation, organization, development, design and production of communications and / or marketing materials.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Is experienced with or understands pre-press and / or print production.
Can take creative direction and feedback and apply aesthetic and functional design.
Shows ambition, takes initiative and provides ideas and recommendations to improve or enhance existing ideas.
Has experience with project management and meeting deadlines.
Enjoys a collaborative environment yet is self-sufficient and confident working independently.
Has excellent written and communication skills.
Is detail oriented and possesses strong organizational skills.
Excellent creative, composition and computer design skills required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Proficiency with graphic print production and desktop publishing software required, including Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat) and Canva.
Working knowledge of the print production process (request for proposals, design, layout, and prepress) including thorough understanding of graphic file formats.
Photography skills including photo editing and enhancing, as well as experience in photo library organization a plus. Web and video knowledge a plus.
Strong interpersonal skills, can express and present ideas, listen well, and work in a team environment.
Solid time management skills, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize and meet deadlines.
Working knowledge of Mac and PC Operating Systems. Day-to-day work will be performed on Mac.
