SUBSTITUTE REGISTERED NURSE: 10-Month School Calendar Position
RN positions involve caring for the medical needs of students placed in BOCES classrooms which are located in a Special Education Host Site program. Assistance with all medical aspects of the students' day is expected.
- Plans for periodic examinations and screening procedures as required by State Law and Board of Education Policy.
- Assists the School Physician with physical, visual, audio screening examinations of students and employees.
- Administers first aid and emergency treatment to students and employees.
- Performs medical procedures prescribed by doctors for students .
- Appraises the mental and physical health status of pupils through observation and analysis of records on a continuing basis.
- Assists in feeding and care of students with disabilities
- Prepares, maintains and shares information on Cumulative Health Records with appropriate staff.
- Arranges transportation of sick or injured students or employees to hospital or home.
- Orders inventory and oversees the storage of first aid and related health supplies and equipment.
- Assists the administrator in planning and maintaining a safe, healthful school environment, including the establishment and implementation of emergency care procedures.
- Participates in the development of policies to improve and protect the health of students and school personnel.
- Prepares records and reports as required.
- Seeks professional development opportunities to further growth.
- Carries out all other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Civil Service Non-Competitive Classification
Must possess a valid NYS Registered Professional Nurse Licensure; experience in working with disabled students is preferred. The employee must be physically able and willing to meet the needs of the student.
